From the hotel pickup, we go to the Keyes Art Mile, to visit a number of galleries grouped near each other. These include five famous galleries, Kim Sacks, the Goodman, Circa, Everard Read, and David Krut, which also has a huge selection of art books for sale. After lunch at one of the excellent eateries in the area, we head downtown, where you can choose from a variety of galleries or have David take you to the ones he feels will be most interesting. You can visit Maboneng Precinct, where renowned global artistic icon William Kentridge has a studio called "The Centre for the Less Good Idea", or the Bag Factory at the other end of town. Just north of the city centre is the Johannesburg Art Gallery (old masters and modern), and then Constitution Hill, a former apartheid prison. The Transwerke is a beautiful old art deco building now renovated into a space for young and emerging artists to live and work. Meet artists and see or buy modern and contemporary African artworks.
