The park is most famous for the Great Migration, during which vast numbers of wildebeest, accompanied by large numbers of zebras and antelope, move in an annual pattern, constantly seeking fresh grazing. The precise timing of the migration depends entirely on the rainfall patterns each year. The Serengeti is truly spectacular and is Tanzania's oldest national park, as well as one of the oldest ecosystems on earth. The drive down into the crater is an adventure in and of itself, and once you reach the crater floor, you will quickly find yourself among large numbers of wildebeest, zebras, gazelles, and more than 500 species of birds.
