Early in the morning, embark on a journey like no other to Uganda’s most elusive park – Kidepo Valley National Park. The park contains two rivers – Kidepo and Narus – which disappear in the dry season, leaving just pools for the wildlife. The local communities around the park include pastoral Karamojong people, similar to the Maasai of Kenya, and the IK, a hunter-gatherer community whose survival is threatened.
Kidepo Valley National Park lies in the rugged, semi-arid valleys between Uganda’s borders with South Sudan in the northwest and only 5km from the eastern border of Kenya, some 700km from Kampala. Gazetted as a national park in 1962, it has a profusion of big game and hosts over 77 mammal species.

The Rothschild Giraffe is very notable, breeding more than 50 individuals from the bottleneck of the mid-1990s population of three and supplemented several from translocation.

Transfer to Murchison Falls National Park
Today we drive to Uganda's most famous, and largest national park, stopping at Aruu Falls weather permitting. At Murchison Falls, the Nile squeezes through an 8m wide gorge and plunges with a thunderous roar into the “Devil’s Cauldron”, creating a trademark rainbow
The northern section of the park contains savanna and Borassus palms, acacia trees, and riverine woodland. The south is dominated by woodland and forest patches. The 1951 film “The African Queen” starring Humphrey Bogart was filmed on Lake Albert and the Nile in Murchison Falls National Park.

On your second day, a game searching safari starts quite early, returning to the lodge a little later for a hearty breakfast. Depending on the lodging location, you might need to cross with the ferry to do the game drive which will give you an opportunity to see elephants, antelopes, giraffes, lion prides, and buffalo herds. For birder-lovers, the secretary bird and black chested snake eagle inhabit this park, though are elusive.
In the afternoon take part in the River Nile boat cruise which goes right to the base of the falls. During the cruise, a lot of hippos and elephants can be seen by the shoreline. There are also bird varieties to be seen like, bee-eaters (carmine, little, red-throated and swallow-tailed), kingfishers, black-crowned night heron, red-necked falcon, harrier hawk, brown snake eagle and fish eagle. You have an option to disembark and hike to the top of the falls. The hike is fairly easy and the view from the top is well worth every effort.
