Day 1

Mabamba Shoebill Tracking

Mabamba Shoebill Tracking

You will join a local guide early in the morning for an excursion through the Mabamba swamp in search of the elusive Shoebill stork. This large, prehistoric bird is a major tourist attraction and can only be found in the region south of the Nile River. Mabamba Bay is the best place to find this mystical bird and is protected as a Ramsar site of an important bird area, with hundreds of unique bird species residing here.

To access the swamp, you can choose between two options: a fisherman's speed boat that departs from the jetty at Port Alice, which takes about an hour to reach Mabamba, or a ferry crossing to the Buwaya landing site, followed by a bumpy ride to Mabamba swamp where you will start your exploration in a dug-out motorized canoe. You will spend around 2 hours wading along Mabamba's water channels.

Once you return to Entebbe, you will have the opportunity to explore the iconic Entebbe Botanical Gardens on a recreational and educational guided walking tour.

Day 2

Catch a scheduled morning flight from Entebbe International Airport to Kisoro Airport.

Upon arrival at Kisoro Airport, a transfer vehicle will be waiting to take you to Kisoro town. Here, you will meet a local walking safari guide and embark on a nature hike through the rural region.

During the hike, you will trek for about an hour through villages, communities, and cultivated mountain slopes, until you reach the serene Lake Mutanda. Here, you will enjoy a 2-3 hour canoeing adventure on a traditional dugout canoe, You will have the opportunity to explore and appreciate the stunning views of the calm lake.

You will have lunch at a Lake Mutanda resort, and then join your transfer driver for a short drive through the mountainous terrain to your booked lodge, during this drive, you can enjoy the beautiful views of the rugged landscape, with the Virunga Mountains providing a stunning backdrop, especially as the day comes to an end and the sunlight bounces off the scenery.

Day 3

Mountain Gorilla Tracking

Mountain Gorilla Tracking

Wake up early and have breakfast before heading to the Nkuringo trailhead in time for the 8:00 am briefing. Our driver will drive you the from your Lodge.

At the briefing, you'll be assigned a group of other trekkers and given guidelines for observing gorillas in their natural habitat. For your safety, armed rangers will accompany you, along with a knowledgeable guide.

Once you've found the gorillas, you'll be allowed to spend an hour with them. To ensure their safety, keep your camera silent avoid flash photography, and observe a distance of at least 10 meters from the animals. The time you spend in the forest may vary, but our expert guides will ensure you have an unforgettable experience.

After your gorilla tracking, return to your cozy cottage, order food, and relax while taking in the breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape. Don't miss the chance to connect with nature and create memories that will last a lifetime.

Day 4

Batwa Cultural Trail

Batwa Cultural Trail

This day allows you to squeeze in a few local activities like walking with the natives on a cultural trail, birdwatching in a pocket forest, or walking through communities.

The 2-3-hour Batwa trail takes you on a cultural experience with a Batwa tribal leader, a local interpreter, and several other tribal members showcasing their original stories of when they lived in the now-gazetted gorilla forest park.

The Batwa lived in the forest as nomadic hunter-gatherers for millennia, perfectly balanced with flora and fauna. They earn a living from this little pocket forest by re-enacting their historical cultures for visiting tourists.

The end of the day would be excellent for a sundowner experience at the "top of the world" with the sun setting on the stunning 360-degree views across southwestern Uganda’s rugged landscape.

Day 5

Nature walking trail across Bwindi

Nature walking trail across Bwindi

The 4-6-hour ancient nature hiking trail across the impenetrable forest of Bwindi from the southern section in Nkuringo to the northern park section in Buhoma is famous, with locals trading goods between the two villages. You’ll begin the walk from the Lodge through villages, into the misty jungle along the Kashasha River valley, and to the flatter trail leading out to Buhoma.

For 15 km, 4-6 hours, you’ll be immersed in the majestic beauties of the ancient jungle guided by a local expert who’ll furnish you with old tales and incredible forest knowledge and bring you close to being one with the forest trails. If you’re lucky, you’ll meet wild forest inhabitants like chimps, elephants, duikers, forest buffalo, and more.

Upon arrival at the park headquarters in Buhoma, continue to your lodge on the outskirts of the national park for some relaxation and to enjoy the “other” side of Bwindi. If interested, possibility we can arrange a community walks (optional and to be paid locally).

Day 6

Transfer from Buhoma to Ishasha

Transfer from Buhoma to Ishasha

After enjoying a leisurely breakfast, your driver guide will transport you from your lodge to a new lodge near the Ishasha sector of Queen Elizabeth National Park. Once you arrive at your new lodge, you can take a brief moment to relax. Later in the afternoon, you will embark on an exciting evening game drive in the Ishasha plains. During this drive, you may have the chance to spot tree-climbing lions, as well as a variety of other wildlife such as Topi, waterbuck, hippos, Uganda Kob, and more. Once your drive is complete, you can return to the lodge for relaxation, dinner, and an overnight stay.
