Nairobi - Samburu National Reserve

After pick-up from your hotel or airport, you will depart to Samburu National Reserve, located in northern Kenya. You will cross the Equator to arrive in time for lunch.

At 4 pm, proceed for an afternoon game viewing in the reserve, which is famous for its truly wild semi-arid landscape, and the large concentration of wild animals and birdlife. Samburu is popular for hosting the rare northern Kenyan animal species commonly referred to as the "Samburu Five" (gerenuk, reticulated giraffe, Grevy’s zebra, Beisa oryx and Somali ostrich), which are not found in the other popular parks and reserves in Kenya. It is also home to all the African big cats (lion, cheetah and leopard), alongside other big game including elephants, buffaloes, warthogs, hippos, impalas, waterbucks and many others. Dinner and overnight will be at Samburu Sopa Lodge.

Samburu National Reserve

We spend this whole day exploring Samburu Game Reserve. We start with an early morning game drive, when the light is perfect for good photographic scenery, coupled with the concentration of wildlife on the ground. We then go on mid-morning and afternoon game drives, during which you will have the opportunity to spot all the big cats. At an extra cost, we can visit Samburu Village and learn about the uniqueness of the Samburu tribe and their culture.

Samburu is also a renowned bird-watching haven, with hundreds of bird species residing here. These include kingfisher, bee-eater, tawny eagle, guineafowl, yellow-throated spurfowl, lilac-breasted roller, red-billed hornbill, secretary bird, Verreaux’s eagle, starling, yellow-billed hornbill and vulture.

The unique culture of the Samburu tribe, who live in the region, is the icing on the cake for the amazing Samburu National Reserve.

Samburu National Reserve - Nairobi

We embark on an early morning game drive at sunrise when predators are active. We will return to the lodge for a late, buffet breakfast at leisure. After breakfast, we depart Samburu National Reserve with the last picturesque scenes of the reserve, arriving in Nairobi in the afternoon.

Depending on the arrangements, you will be dropped off at your hotel or airport to connect to your homebound flight. This is where the safari ends.
