3-Day Gorilla Trek in Mgahinga- Where Silver Meets Gold

Drive off from Kigali to Mgahinga National Park

You will meet with your tour leader in Kigali, Rwanda for briefing and after, get your property packed in the car. Set off from your hotel, driving through Kigali town for a city tour in a 4WD safari vehicle. Visit sites like the Kigali Genocide Memorial to get the history about the Rwanda genocide, we later proceed for lunch and set off for a 3- 4 hour drive to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park in Kisoro via the Cyanika boarder. On arrival, you will proceed to the lodge to have a leisurely dinner and overnight stay.

Mgahinga Gorilla Trekking Adventure with the park guide

Gorilla trekking in Mgahinga like in Bwindi involves spending good time searching for the family of the endangered mountain gorillas in their natural habitat. The day begins with briefing from the park official where you get insight into the different guidelines for gorilla trekking. All guests will be expected at Mgahinga NP Ntebeko area for briefing and for you to be assigned the park guide.

Leave Ntebeko for actual search for Nyakagezi gorilla group of Mgahinga, and expect to take 2-6 hours. The one hour is inclusive and this is when you will explore in depth about the daily behaviors of gorillas and taking photos. Different behaviors, feeding and mating habits plus others will be explored and you get back to the lodge.

Have a relaxed stay at the lodge till evening when you will pay a visit to one of the nearby communities. After, you will get back to spend the rest of the day at the lodge.

Golden monkey trekking and return to Kigali

You will return to the park for your golden monkey trekking. Just like the previous day, you receive a briefing from the ranger guide who will share information on what to expect while in the Virunga volcanoes searching for the golden monkeys. After this short brief, you will start your hike up in search of the golden monkeys.
You are only allowed to spend 1 hour with the golden monkeys before you start your descent back to the starting point and embark on your journey back to Kigali.
