You will have an early breakfast to give you the energy for gorilla tracking in the forest. You will make your way to the park headquarters with your guide and a packed lunch in hand around 7:30am for a briefing on what to expect during your journey. The guide will then take you through the bush, passing through thick creepers, to track the gorillas. This trek can take anywhere from half an hour to five hours. A base fitness level and sturdy pair of walking shoes are required here. When you finally locate the gorilla family that you are tracking, you will be allowed to spend one hour observing their lifestyle and behavior. It is an extraordinary feeling sitting in the dense rain forest knowing you are in the presence of some of the few remaining mountain gorillas in the world. More than half of the world's remaining mountain gorilla population is found here. After the trek, you will travel to Lake Bunyonyi. Dinner and your overnight stay will be at the lodge.

Bwindi Impenetrable National Park - Lake Bunyonyi
After breakfast, you will go canoeing along Lake Bunyonyi. The journey takes you through the Kigezi area, which is known as the “Switzerland of Africa,” to Lake Bunyonyi itself. This lake is a result of lava flow from one of the Virunga Mountains, which blocked off the Ndego River at present day Muko to create a natural dam. Dotted with at least 20 small islands and encircled by steep terraced hills, Bunyonyi is a magical spot. The lake is referred to as a birder’s paradise, and you will enjoy views of many different bird species, including the grey-crowned crane and a variety of herons and egrets. It is probably the best place in Africa to see otters – particularly the diurnal spotted-necked otter (several pairs are resident around Rutinda and the nearby islands). Lunch, dinner, and your overnight stay will be at the resort.
