Day 1

Nairobi to Masai Mara

Nairobi to Masai Mara

Your driver will pick you up from the hotel or airport for a departure to the world-renowned Masai Mara National Reserve with a stopover at the Great Rift Valley viewpoint and then lunch in Narok. Mara's tawny, wildlife-stuffed savannahs are familiar to anyone who has watched nature documentaries.

Reliable rains and plentiful vegetation underpin this extraordinary ecosystem and the millions of herbivores it supports. Wildebeests, zebras, impalas, elephants, Maasai giraffes, and several gazelle species call the Mara home. This vast concentration of game accounts for high predator numbers, including cheetahs and leopards, and a higher lion density. You will search for the Big Five with game drives across the grassy plains of the Masai Mara National Reserve before returning to the camp for dinner and an overnight stay.

You’ll spend the day exploring the vast plains in search of its wildlife, a haven for the big cats. Today's sights include cheetahs, elephants, buffalos, and zebras, which dominate the scene, while antelopes, warthogs, and wildebeests form formidable numbers. You will have your picnic lunch and continue to venture through the plains, looking out for real close wildlife encounters. Tracing the various animals, you find yourself at the Mara River with crocodiles and hippos; this is the wildebeest crossing point from the neighboring Serengeti. The Mara plains comprise wildlife and the communities of the Maasai people.

An optional local Maasai Village visit at the end of the day can be arranged at an extra cost. Return for dinner and overnight at the camp.
