Ngorongoro Crater to Western Serengeti
Ngorongoro Crater to Western Serengeti
After breakfast, we hit the road to experience the scenic Ngorongoro Crater, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the Seven Wonders of Africa. More precisely termed a caldera, it is the best place for game viewing in all of Tanzania. An enclosed ecosystem, the caldera is home to some 25,000 large mammals.
Descending the bumpy, winding track toward the caldera floor, we pass through several climactic zones until, 600m down, we roam out onto the broad expanse. We can expect to see buffalos, wildebeest, zebras, gazelle, elephants, reedbuck, and Thomson's gazelle. We may spot our predator friends like lions and cheetahs lounging in the grass or in action, as well as some of the more than 500 bird species that inhabit this area. With a little bit of luck, we might catch a glimpse of the endangered black rhino through the grass.
After our extensive game drive within the crater, we drive straight to the Western Corridor of Serengeti for dinner and an overnight stay.

Full Day Game Drive in the Western Corridor Tracking the Migration and River Crossing
Full Day Game Drive in the Western Corridor Tracking the Migration and River Crossing
We continue our game drive in the Western Corridor of Serengeti early in the morning after breakfast.
Around the end of April, May, and June, a vast army of wildebeest, along with its partners, zebras, eland, and gazelle, mill around the Western Corridor of the Serengeti, south of the Grumeti River. Harassed by lions, cheetahs, leopards, and hyenas and ahead by giant Nile crocodiles, many hundreds perish as some hazard the river crossing while others detour it. But the beauty of the landscape, stretching without end beneath an infinite sky on a Serengeti West safari, changes something within the watcher, who becomes more aware of humankind's place within the animal world's drama.
After lunch and an extensive game drive, we head for our tented partner lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.
You will spend two nights in the Western Corridor.

Lake Manyara National Park to Arusha
After breakfast, we hit the road to Lake Manyara National Park. Manyara, known for its namesake lake, which covers some 70 percent of the park's area, is famed for its tree-climbing lions. Our game drive takes us to the lakeshore, where, while viewing the thousands of feeding flamingos, we might spot monkeys, giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, buffalos, elephants, and, with some luck, lions lounging in the trees.
The park is known for its diverse landscapes, including open grassy plains, primate-filled woodlands, and baobab-dotted cliffs. Animals gather at the river, and giraffes, bushbuck, and hartebeest are often seen. A range of predators, like Simba, the lion king, and his cousin, the leopard, follow in close pursuit, are also often seen.
After lunch and extensive game drive, we head back to Arusha.
