The reserve is also a renowned bird-watching haven, with hundreds of bird species residing here. The morning game drive commences after breakfast when the animals are most active. It also houses the two remaining northern white rhinos in the world, who were moved here from Dvůr Králové Zoo in the Czech Republic. Sadly the only Northern white rhino named Sudan was put to rest due to old age. The Sweetwaters Chimpanzee Sanctuary is situated here. It provides a haven for orphaned, abandoned and rescued chimpanzees. It is the only place in Kenya where these great apes can be seen.
