On the first day of your hike, the Kiliclimb Africa Safaris team will pick you up from your hotel early in the morning after breakfast. After a 2-hour drive to Lemosho Gate within Kilimanjaro National Park (note that a stop at Lemosho gate is no longer necessary), you'll complete formal registrations with the Park authorities. Lunch will be provided at the gate before starting your hike. Traverse through a dense rainforest zone, where you might spot colobus monkeys in the tree branches. Arriving at Mti Mkubwa (Big Tree) Camp in the early evening, the Kiliclimb Africa team will have set up the camp in advance for your arrival. Warm water will be available for freshening up, followed by dinner. After dinner, you'll receive a briefing about the following day's activities before retiring to your tent for the night.

Mti Mkubwa to Shira 1
On day 2, Kiliclimb Africa Safaris team will wake you up in the morning and provide warm water for freshening up before serving breakfast. The destination for the second day is Shira Camp 1. The hike from Mti Mkubwa Camp to Shira Camp 1 typically takes 5-6 hours to complete. You'll traverse through a forest zone that gradually transitions into a heather and volcanic rock zone. Along the way, you'll pass through Shira Ridge before descending gently to Shira Camp 1, offering a magnificent view of the summit ahead, Kiliclimb Africa Safaris team will have already set up the camp in readiness for your arrival, where you'll spend the night. After dinner, you'll receive a briefing about the following day's hike.
Shira 1 to Shira 2
On day 3, after breakfast at Shira Camp 1, you'll set out early in the morning for Shira Camp 2. The hike typically takes 3-4 hours to complete. Along the way, you'll traverse Shira Ridge, characterized by rocky terrain, low grasses, and shrubs. The ascent to Shira Camp 2 involves climbing approximately 400 meters. If desired and weather conditions permit, a short detour to Shira Cathedral (3895m) can be arranged. Upon reaching the camp, you'll enjoy lunch followed by a briefing from the Kiliclimb Africa Safaris team about the next day's hike. The remainder of the day is for rest before dinner. You'll spend the night at this camp, where the breathtaking view of Kibo Peak is sure to leave a lasting impression.

Shira to Baranco camp
After breakfast on day 4, you'll transition from the moorland environment to the semi-desert and rocky landscape, marking the first time we ascend above 4000m. After approximately 5 hours of hiking, you'll reach the Lava Tower, situated at 4640m above sea level. At this altitude, it's common for hikers to experience symptoms of altitude sickness such as headaches, shortness of breath, and nausea. Near Lava Tower, the Lemosho route merges with the Machame route. Kiliclimb Africa team will serve lunch at Lava Tower before you begin your descent to Barranco Camp, nestled in a valley below the Breach and Great Barranco Wall. The descent typically takes about 2 hours, during which the effects of altitude tend to decrease as you descend, allowing your body to acclimate to the conditions. This strategy of climbing high and sleeping low aids in acclimatization.

Baranco camp to karanga camp
On day 5, you'll embark on a shorter hike, designated for acclimatization. Following an early morning breakfast, you'll tackle the Great Barranco Wall. Upon reaching the summit of the Wall, you'll be rewarded with panoramic views of the Heim Glacier and find yourself above the clouds. The trail then meanders through the Karanga Valley, with the ultimate destination being Karanga Camp, where you'll spend the night. Upon arrival, lunch will be served, allowing for rest and relaxation for the remainder of the day. Dinner will be served in the evening, accompanied by a briefing from the Genius Kilimanjaro team regarding the following day's itinerary before retiring for the night. The view of Kibo from Karanga Camp is breathtaking, with the Peak appearing tantalizingly close, almost within reach!

Karanga camp to Barafu camp
Following breakfast, you'll commence your ascent, with the trail intersecting the Mweka Route, the descent trail for the final two days. After hiking for approximately 1 to 2 hours, you'll arrive at Barafu Camp, situated on a rocky, exposed ridge where tents are susceptible to wind and rocks. Prior to nightfall, you'll familiarize yourself with the campsite. In the early evening, dinner will be served, providing an opportunity to rest before your summit attempt later that night. Kiliclimb Africa Safaris team will provide detailed instructions on preparing for the summit night.
Barafu camp to Uhuru Peak to mweka camp
Summit day! Around midnight, the Kiliclimb Africa safaris team will wake you with a warm cup of tea and biscuits to prepare for your final ascent. Using headlamps and possibly moonlight, you'll navigate your way up to Stella Point at 5730m, reaching the crater rim in approximately 5 to 7 hours. Another 1 to 2 hours of trekking will lead you to Uhuru Peak, where you can witness the sunrise over the roof of Africa. After capturing this breathtaking moment, you'll begin your descent along the same route back to Barafu Camp. kiliclimb Africa Safaris team will be ready with snacks and refreshments upon your return. Rest in your tents before continuing to Mweka Camp for your last night on Africa's highest mountain. Dinner will be served at Mweka Camp before retiring for the night.

Mweka camp to Mweka Gate
It's the final day of your incredible adventure with Kiliclimb Africa Safaris. The day kicks off after breakfast with a traditional farewell ceremony from our team. The descent will take approximately 2 to 3 hours from Mweka Camp at 3080m to Mweka Gate (1830m). After lunch at Mweka Gate, we will proceed with transportation to Arusha, where our client will be accommodated overnight.
