One of our favorite places to search for wildlife in Kenya is the Masai Mara National Reserve. The wildlife here is truly incredible, featuring big cats like lions, leopards, and cheetahs, along with elephants as some of the main highlights. You’ll likely also encounter giraffes, buffaloes, wildebeests, zebras, hippos, hyenas, and impalas. Don't forget your binoculars, as over 500 bird species have been recorded in the reserve. It is also known for its stunning savannah landscapes, dotted with iconic acacia trees.

Immerse yourself in Maasai culture with a visit to the Engikaret Maasai community, composed of 32 villages in Longido District, located off the typical safari circuit. You will not only visit a single village but also get to know the entire community and explore the different spaces they use in their daily lives, such as dams, BBQ areas, schools, churches, and more. Participate in various activities to learn about the culture, visit homes and the boma, and walk through the community to understand their challenges and how they are working on projects through their NGO. The highlight of the visit will be a storytelling session, allowing you to delve deeper into the culture with opportunities to ask questions and engage in conversation. Welcome to the most renowned ethnic group of Tanzania (out of 120 communities in the country).

You'll be impressed with Tarangire National Park. Most visitors are captivated by the distinct shapes of the baobab trees silhouetted against the sky, creating a fairy-tale African landscape. Many also remember the elephants that roam in family bands throughout the park. If you're lucky, you'll encounter the big cats—especially lions, but also cheetahs and leopards—that are often seen here. There's also a good chance you'll spot wildebeest, giraffe, hippo, buffalo, and zebra, ticking them off your wildlife-viewing list.
