"The only living things which look as if they really belonged to it are the wild animals. Between the animals and Africa, there is an understanding that the human beings have not yet earned." - Laurens van der Post, Venture to the Interior, 1963.

Today, Serengeti National Park, along with the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and the Masai Mara National Reserve in Kenya, safeguard the most diverse and extensive collection of terrestrial wildlife on the planet, preserving one of the last great migratory systems in its entirety.

Serengeti National Park - Western Corridor

Start your day with a hearty breakfast at the camp, followed by an exciting game drive on the western side of Serengeti National Park. Prepare to witness the incredible Grumeti area river crossing and keep an eye out for the big cats and the Big Five. In the afternoon, your driver will arrange a table for a delicious hot lunch, complete with soup, bread rolls, a main dish, and fruit salad, accompanied by a glass of wine, tea, or coffee. After lunch, continue your game drive until evening when we return to the lodge for dinner and overnight accommodation.

Focusing solely on the Serengeti's migration would overlook its many other wonders. Even without the migration, the Serengeti stands as one of Africa's finest parks. If your goal is to witness the great migration, it's crucial to choose the right region for your travel dates. The park is vast, and selecting the wrong location could mean missing out on seeing the herds.

Serengeti National Park is renowned for its abundant wildlife, particularly the "Big Five," named for the most prized trophies sought by hunters. The park is believed to harbor the largest population of lions in Africa, with more than 3,000 lions residing in the ecosystem. The elusive leopards are commonly spotted in the Seronera region, while the park also hosts around 1,000 African elephants.

The migration is a mesmerizing spectacle where a million wildebeest, driven by ancient rhythms, fulfill their instinctive role in the inescapable cycle of life. Over a frenzied 3-week period of territorial conquests, mating, and survival of the fittest, these majestic animals traverse crocodile-infested waters on their annual exodus northward. Their journey spans 40km (25 miles) and culminates in a brief population explosion, yielding over 8,000 calves daily, before embarking on the 1,000 km (600 miles) pilgrimage once more.
