Barafu Camp - Summit - Mweka Camp
Before midnight, in the shadows, get up. A moderate, steady pace will bring us to Stella Point, which is the rim of the main crater, at a height of 5735m. We start out with a hard climb through loose volcanic scree that has some well-graded zigzags. We’ll take a little break there to watch the sunrise over Mawenzi. The main peak (5,895 m), which is the highest point in Africa, is two hours away from here along the crater rim for those who are still in good spirits. We descend to Barafu in an astonishingly short amount of time, stopping at Barafu Camp for some refreshments before continuing to descend to Mweka Camp.
