Day 1

Arusha - Serengeti National Park

Arusha - Serengeti National Park

Serengeti is a national park that offers you a variety of wildlife surprises over the next few days. Today’s highlight – certainly for first-time visitors – will be the Serengeti terrain itself. The sheer vastness, as the plains roll away in front of you into eternity, will leave you with a sense of awe. At last! Serengeti, the incomparable wonder of Tanzania, will be the stage for the natural animal theatrics which will undoubtedly be performed during your visit. Your afternoon game drive combines the known with the unknown, the certainty that you will be amazed at the uncertainty of exactly what you will see and when.

Changing light and a changing cast of animal actors ensure that at every turn, there is a new experience. Snap some memorable photos, but don’t forget to simply take a deep breath and enjoy nature in its real-time, raw beauty. Before sunset, retire to the comfort of your tented camp for dinner and overnight.

Full-day Game Drive in Serengeti National Park

Waking up in the Serengeti is something really special. The sights, sounds and smells of Africa are all around us, and ahead is a full day of adventure in the world’s most famous national park. After breakfast, we start the morning section of our game drive in Serengeti National Park. We marvel at the stunning scenery, ever-changing light and always entertaining wildlife, all explained by your expert driver-guide.

After our picnic lunch, we set off to search for wildlife in this awe-inspiring park. Serengeti’s wonders evolve subtly as the day progresses. The myriad animals and birds are the stars of the show and nature’s drama can unfold at any time. Of course, the animals don’t work according to any schedule, so we may find lions or leopards, elephants and zebras, cheetahs, and antelopes on our drives at any time. At the end of the afternoon, we return to the comfort of our tented camp for dinner and some much-needed rest.

Serengeti - Ngorongoro Crater Rim

Today, we will stay at crater rim and have a good view of the spectacular, incomparable Ngorongoro Crater, the world’s largest intact volcanic caldera and the heart of the conservation area of the same name. But before that, we will go on another morning game drive in the amazing Serengeti, marveling at its animal inhabitants. It will be another day of adventure and to enjoy the wildlife.

After lunch, we head southeast towards Ngorongoro. If it has not already struck you with its vastness, Serengeti’s endless plains will make a deep impression on you as we take the long, straight road which passes Simba Kopjes (famous from The Lion King) to reach Naabi Hill Gate, close to the divide between Serengeti and Ngorongoro. You can gather information at the gate’s visitor center, climb the hill for superb views over the plains, or look out for a colorful agama lizard among the rocks. In the evening, retire to the comfort of your lodge for much-needed rest, dinner and overnight.

Ngorongoro Crater Tour

Ngorongoro Crater Tour

After breakfast, we set off from our accommodation for a 7 am departure to reach the rim and descend into the vast crater. On one side, there’s the Lerai Forest, a classic mountain forest landscape with almost tropical characteristics. This is good elephant country, so keep your eyes peeled.

The crater is home to lions, wildebeests, zebras, hyenas, and rhinos. Many wildebeest and other herd animals are resident, benefiting from the many sources of year-round waters and are boosted by some seasonal migrators. Buffalo, Thomson’s gazelle and eland are also present in numbers. Hippos can be found in pools, swampland, and highlands. Birdlife is colorful and plentiful around the waters. Flamingos can often be seen in Lake Magadi, which occupies part of the crater floor.

In the late afternoon, we ascend the crater and drive back to Arusha to your booked hotel or the airport if you have a scheduled flight to catch.
