2 travelers on Start dateWe will get up and go west on the newly constructed Ambo road. Before arriving to Ambo, which is about 120 km from the city, we will pass the Menagesha Forest to the north of the route, the Holetta River, a tributary of the Awash, Three of Ethiopia's principal river basins—the Awash, Omo, and Guder—intersect in the region between Addis Alem and Ambo. One of Ethiopia's most breathtaking views may be seen before ascending approximately 1000 meters (27 kilometers) to the rim of the Wonchi crater: lush trees and a lake surrounded by islets. We'll take a break for refreshments at the town of Ambo, which is home to Ethiopia's most well-known mineral spring. We have two options: either we leave our cars here and go all the way to the crater on foot or on horseback. After enjoying a picnic lunch here, we'll explore the forest on foot or on horseback for a few hours, stopping at the hot springs and hopping on a dug-out boat to see the chapel on the island.
