Kalahari to Sossusvlei
After a breathtaking breakfast, you continue your journey southwest to the Namib Desert. You travel back to Mariental and on to Maltahohe, a small farming settlement on the edge of the escarpment. Heading down the escarpment mountains, you need to be alert as sections of the road are steep with some sharp curves. Drive slowly and carefully. You will reach your overnight accommodation on the edge of the Namib dune sea later this afternoon. After checking in, you can relax at the swimming pool and enjoy the late afternoon light on the mountains.

Sossusvlei
After an early wake-up and breakfast, you leave very early from the lodge, heading for the Sesriem entrance gate to the Namib-Naukluft Park. The gate will only open at sunrise. Driving the 60 kilometers from Sesriem through the dunes towards Sossusvlei while the sun rises, is a real pleasure. The first major dune you will encounter goes by the imaginative name of Dune 45. Many people choose to stop and climb this dune, but we suggest you continue towards Sossusvlei.
You park your 2x4 vehicle at the parking lot (unless you have a 4x4 vehicle). This is as far as you can drive unless you make alternative arrangements with the lodge (it is ideal to book this in advance).
Sossusvlei is a further 4 kilometers from here, but you are already among fairly large dunes. You will leave the park since the sun gets hot here, and the sand dunes can get extremely hot. En route, you can visit Sesriem Canyon.

Today's fascinating drive takes you northwest through the awesome and ever-changing desert landscapes of the Namib-Naukluft National Park, including the impressive Gaub and Kuiseb Canyons. Stop in Solitaire to refuel. The bakery is pretty good too.
There are a host of adventure activities to participate in while in Swakopmund. These range from sandboarding through quad biking to skydiving. No activities are included in this package, but they can be pre-arranged when you book this itinerary or on arrival in Swakopmund. Being a German-inspired town, good food and beer are never hard to find. We are sure you will find something productive to do!

On your return, your local guide will wait for you to take you on the Sandwich Harbour tour. You will return at 16h00 and be dropped off at the waterfront after awesome sightings of marine wildlife. Experience the most remarkable view of Sandwich Harbour, where sand and sea meet.
You will return and collect your rental vehicle at the waterfront. You drive back to Swakopmund, where you can relax. You can walk to the nearby restaurant for dinner (at your own cost) and explore the town on foot. The rest of the night is spent at your leisure.

Continuing on your safari today, the road takes you north and east into the wonderful and diverse region of Damaraland. Damaraland is typified by displays of colour, magnificent table-topped mountains, rock formations and bizarre-looking vegetation.

Today, you continue with your self-drive safari to Etosha National Park, which is a scenic few hours through more of Damaraland's singular beauty. The Anderson Gate is much closer to Damaraland. It will take about 3 hours to Okaukuejo Resort, home to one of the most popular waterholes in the Etosha National Park. It is instrumental in the dry seasons when animals have no natural water elsewhere in the region. They all congregate around the Okaukuejo waterhole. Here, you can have a short game-viewing drive with your own vehicle, but you have to be back at the resort before sunset since all the gates are closed by sunset. You can book with the resort to drive in an open vehicle to view the game (at your own cost).

You wake up very early, and after breakfast, you head out on your game drive as soon as the gates open at sunrise. Predators are mostly active in the early morning hours (and in the late afternoon). To maximise your chances of good viewings, it is worth imitating their behaviour. The roads in Etosha have unsealed gravel but are in reasonable condition, so you can drive between various waterholes searching for animals. As the day gets hotter, head for shade and lunch at one of the park's three camps; Okaukuejo, Halali or Namutoni Resorts.
When things start to cool down again, you head back to your resort while enjoying your game-viewing drive so you can return to the resort before they close the gates by sunset. You can enjoy viewing various game coming and going at the floodlit waterhole. The rest of the night is spent at leisure after a long day.

You arrive early, before sunset, since the gates close for all the resorts at sunset. You can enjoy the game coming and going at the floodlit waterhole at Halali.
