Get ready for an adventure! We'll meet you at your hotel in Arusha or Moshi for a mountain briefing before heading to the Lemosho Gate to register and obtain entrance permits. Embark on our hike, crossing through a lush rainforest for approximately 7km over 2 to 3 hours until we reach Mti Mkubwa Camp.
Along the way, take in the diverse flora, including the unique, Forest lobelia, impatiens Kilimanjaro, and keep an eye out for black and white Colobus monkeys and other forest wildlife.

Mti Mkubwa to Shira 2 Camp 3850masl

Kiliclimb Africa Safaris offers you a picturesque and challenging hike to kick off your day, one of the longest on our itinerary. The first leg entails a 3-4 hour walk, spanning 7km, leading you to the Shira 1 camp. Following a brief lunch break, gear up for a 4 to 5-hour trek covering an additional 9km. Traverse the middle of Shira Plateau, a UNESCO World Heritage site, passing through the moorland zone. Finally, arrive at the breathtaking overnight camp nestled at the base of a massive lava flow.

Shira 2 Camp to Barranco Camp 3940masl

On this day you will Embark on a thrilling adventure with Kiliclimb Africa Safaris best Guides as you traverse the Alpine Desert on a 9km hike lasting approximately 6-8 hours. Your journey begins by navigating steep hills and sparse rocks, progressing to a steady uphill climb.

At 4600m, you'll reach the lava tower, a 150-meter-high volcanic plug located just outside the mountain. Here, you'll stop for lunch around noon for acclimatization, with some individuals potentially experiencing mild altitude-related symptoms.

Afterwards, descend for about two hours to Barranco Camp through a trail of dust and rocks, reaching the overnight rest stop amidst the stunning landscape of the Barranco Camp.

Baranco Camp to Barafu Camp 4673masl

After breakfast at Barranco, you'll depart, ascending a steep ridge and passing the Barranco wall en route to Karanga Valley Campsite. Lunch will be served at Karanga, allowing a brief period for acclimatization before continuing to Barafu Hut.

At Barafu Hut, the culmination of the South Circuit awaits, offering diverse views of the summit. Set up camp, rest, and enjoy dinner while preparing for the summit day, with the majestic peaks of Mawenzi and Kibo in sight.

Covering a distance of 9 kilometers over 6-7 hours, you'll traverse the alpine desert, experiencing the unique terrain and breathtaking landscapes.

Barafu Camp to Summit 5895masl and Descend to Millenium camp 3700masl

You will get the Full summits briefing, Dinner and Rest as Around 11:00 pm, you'll arise, indulging in tea and snacks while dressing warmly for the summit. Commencing the ascent at midnight, you'll navigate steep rocks for two to three hours before progressing through a zigzag area to reach the crater rim and Stella Point (5756 meters) by 6:00 am.

At Stella Point, interact with climbers from other routes before continuing towards Uhuru Peak, approximately one hour away. Witness the sunrise either at Stella Point, en route to Uhuru, or at Uhuru Peak (5895m), spending 15-30 minutes capturing pictures and embracing the views.

Following the summit, descend to Barafu Campsite for a restful brunch, then continue down to Millenium Camp. Covering 5km ascent and 12km descent, with hiking times of 6-7 hours for ascent and 1.5-2 hours for descent to Millenium Camp at 3700m.

Millenium Camp 3700mals to Mweka Gate 1800masl

After breakfast at Millenium Camp (3700m), begin your descent to Mweka Gate (1800m). The hike will take approximately 4-5 hours as you traverse through lush rainforest terrain. Upon reaching the gate, our guide will collect certificates for those who reached the summit.

Celebrate your achievement with a farewell lunch, sharing goodbyes with your Kilimanjaro team of porters, cooks, and assistant guides. Afterward, you'll be driven back to your lodge in Arusha or moshi, where you can relax and reflect on your incredible journey up Mount Kilimanjaro.
