Day 1

Arusha to Lake Manyara National Park

Arusha to Lake Manyara National Park

After breakfast, depart from Arusha at approximately 8:00 am and head towards Lake Manyara National Park for a full day of game driving, including a picnic lunch. Later, continue to Fanaka Lodge Camp for dinner and an overnight stay.

Stretching for 50 kilometers along the base of the 600-meter high rusty-gold Rift Valley escarpment, Lake Manyara is a picturesque gem, praised by Ernest Hemingway as "the loveliest I had seen in Africa."

The compact game-viewing route through Manyara offers a miniature version of the Tanzanian safari experience.

From the entrance gate, the road meanders through a lush, jungle-like groundwater forest where large troops of baboons lounge casually along the roadside. Blue monkeys dart nimbly among the ancient mahogany trees, delicate bushbuck move cautiously through the shadows, and oversized forest hornbills honk loudly in the high canopy.

After breakfast, continue your journey to Serengeti National Park via the Ngorongoro Highlands. Here, you will have the opportunity to embark on a guided walking safari along the rim of the Ngorongoro Crater, accompanied by a park ranger. Afterwards, enjoy a game drive with picnic lunches. Dinner and an overnight stay will be at Camp.

Witness the incredible great migration, where a million wildebeest follow an ancient rhythm, driven by instinct in the unending cycle of life. This event includes a three-week frenzy of territorial battles and mating, showcasing the survival of the fittest. Enormous herds form 40-kilometer (25-mile) long columns, crossing crocodile-filled waters during their annual journey north. This migration also features a brief but dramatic population boom, with over 8,000 calves born each day, before embarking on the 1,000-kilometer (600-mile) trek once again.

Tanzania's premier park is famed for the dramatic interactions between predators and prey. Golden-maned lion prides thrive on the abundance of grazing animals. Solitary leopards stalk the acacia trees along the Seronera River, while a significant population of cheetahs roams the southeastern plains. Remarkably, all three African jackal species can be found here, along with the spotted hyena and a variety of smaller, more elusive predators, from the insect-eating aardwolf to the striking serval cat.

The game viewing is as captivating as the vast sense of freedom that defines the Serengeti Plains, which stretch across sunlit savannahs to a gleaming golden horizon. After the rains, this golden landscape transforms into an endless green carpet dotted with wildflowers. The scenery also includes wooded hills, towering termite mounds, rivers bordered by fig trees, and acacia woodlands tinted orange by dust.
