Day 1

Arusha – Miriakamba Hut (2541m)

Arusha – Miriakamba Hut (2541m)

Duration: 5-7 hours of hiking

After an early morning breakfast in Arusha, you will be picked up from your hotel and brought to the Momella Gate in Arusha National Park. Meet up with your porters, guide, cook, and game ranger, and start climbing.

The first day of hiking is similar to a walking safari. You should expect to see giraffes, zebras, antelopes, buffalo, and potentially elephants near the trail. Due to the high possibility of spotting wildlife, an armed ranger, hired through the national park, is required to hike with our team for the duration of the hike. As you continue hiking, you will pass the Ngarenanyuki River and a beautiful waterfall at the base of Mount Meru. There, you will have the chance to see many different kinds of birds and black and white colobus.

Upon arriving at Miriakamba Hut, your chef will prepare a hot dinner for you. Enjoy the beautiful sunset and an overnight stay.

Duration: 3-5 hours of hiking.

Second day of climbing is quite short but demanding. You will start climbing the steep path along the ridge of the saddle. You might see different wildlife along the way! The trail offers views of Mount Meru Crater and the Ash Tray.

In the afternoon, you'll hike to Little Meru (3820 m) for amazing views before sunset. Then, you'll return to Saddle Hut for the night. It's a good idea to go to bed early to get enough rest for the next day's hike.

During the last hour, you'll scramble over a rocky ridge between the crater and the inner cliffs of Meru.
