Drive to Sossusvlei

Upon arriving at Windhoek International Airport, you will pick up your rental car and follow the provided directions to Sossusvlei, 365km (225mi) southwest of Windhoek, approximately a 5½ hour drive. We recommend an early departure to arrive early at the lodge or consider staying overnight in Windhoek. Please feel free to ask us about lodging options.

After checking into your lodge, take some time to relax after the drive and enjoy the natural beauty of the surroundings until the late afternoon nature drive begins. Your 3-night stay at Kulala Desert Lodge includes all meals, selected beverages, and scheduled activities. Upon arrival, you can speak with the camp manager to plan your days based on your preferences.

Kulala Desert Lodge is a comfortable, down-to-earth establishment with a friendly atmosphere that will make you feel right at home. Each of the 23 canvas and thatch rooms features a flat rooftop, perfect for sleeping under the incredibly clear Namibian night sky.

Desert Activities

Spend two full days at the camp, participating in guided nature walks and drives to explore the remote and dramatic Namibian landscape. Be on the lookout for various animals, such as oryx, springbok, Cape and bat-eared foxes, ostriches, aardwolf, and black-backed jackals that roam the plains. The area is also teeming with fascinating insects like buck-spoor spiders and antlions. Listen out for the call of the endemic dune lark and try to spot the rarely-seen barking gecko. Back at camp, relax in the living area, by the pool, or on the wraparound veranda, keeping an eye out for desert-adapted animals that might visit the waterhole.
