Enjoy a full day game drive in search of elands, oryxes, wildebeests and zebras as well as the park’s large elephant population. Keep your eyes trained for hartebeests, gazelles and exotic birds like the bateleur and martial eagle. Your local expert driver-guide draws on years of experience in the bush to locate the best wildlife-viewing opportunities right as they happen. This evening, you may choose an optional game drive by moonlight (at an additional cost). As dusk falls, relax in the comfort of your safari vehicle as you venture into the park, as it is transformed by night. Among the species you may encounter are an African wildcat or the elusive leopard, or you may feel the round eyes of a bush baby peering down at you. Serengeti National Park| Shelter of The Big Five

Dictated by the changing climate patterns and the unpredictable nature of wild animals, herds of wildebeests and zebras move through the Serengeti in search of grass and water as part of the year-round Great Migration cycle. Venture out on morning and afternoon game drives in the protected Serengeti refuge, where flowing rivers support a plethora of species. In addition to the Big Five (lions, elephants, buffalo, leopards and rhinos), keep your camera handy for sights such as a cheetah bolting after a fleet Thomson’s gazelle. Northern Ngorongoro - South Serengeti| Ndutu Wildebeest Calving

Check into your accommodation located in the Ndutu Big Marsh region of the Serengeti habitat, in the southern portion of the Serengeti and Northern Ngorongoro. Wildebeest calving occurs from late January to mid-March on these vast plains near Ndutu, when more than 80% with over half a million wildebeest born within a two- to three-week period. Never far away are the carnivores. Lion, hyena, leopard, cheetah and lesser predators await the annual calving with eager anticipation. While wildebeest calves are champions at getting up and running with the herds within minutes of being born, this doesn’t ensure that opportunistic predators aren’t looking for a way to make a meal of the vulnerable and the weak. However, an easy meal is no guarantee! Wildebeest mothers instinctively give birth on the shorter grass plains where approaching predators are easily spotted. Other mothers join in to form a protective barricade around the calves to ensure they have the greatest chance of survival.

Southern Serengeti National Park

Ndutu Heritage Camp
  • Mid-range tented camp bordering Southern Serengeti NP without fences
