Arusha to Tarangire National Park
To ensure we begin our safari drive in Tarangire as early as possible, ideally we should try and leave early morning (5:30/6
AM) for Tarangire (a journey of two hours). Tarangire Park is situated within Tanzania’s spectacular Manyara region that has
granite ridges, river valleys, mixed vegetation landscape, and free-roaming wildlife. The Tarangire river is a magnet for large
herds of thirsty wildlife such as wildebeest, zebra, buffalo, gazelle, eland, and elephant. These herbivores attract predators,
and in Tarangire, lions, cheetahs, and leopards are commonly spotted. Tarangire is also one of the few places in Tanzania
where dry-country antelopes such as oryx, greater and lesser kudu, and gerenuk are seen regularly. This expansive area is
also known for its spectacular baobab trees; one of these long-living trees in Tarangire is estimated to be eight hundred
years old.

Tarangire National Park to Serengeti National Park
Unlike an early morning start on the first day, you can enjoy a leisurely breakfast while listening to the sounds of nature as
your camp is located within Tarangire. After breakfast, we head to the world-famous Serengeti National Park via the
Ngorongoro Conservation Area. This drive is 3+ hours long and will take you past Lake Manyara National Park. We should
reach the Ndutu gate of Serengeti a little after lunch. We will then have a safari drive that explores the Ndutu area of South
Serengeti. We should see an abundance of animals as the annually migrating herd is expected to be in the Ndutu area. The
rich acacia-dotted plains of the southern, central, and northern Serengeti are home to abundant wildlife that range from
Africa's largest mammal, the elephant, to its smallest, the dik-dik. Lat January/early February is the time that the hundreds
of thousands of wildebeest synchronize their calving, and so we are likely see a lot of predator-prey action 2.

Serengeti National Park
We will likely do an early morning two-hour safari ride and return to camp for breakfast or set out after breakfast for a safari
ride through the Ndutu area on our way to explore the vast plains of the Central Serengeti for the rest of the day. The drive
from the Ndutu area to the Central plains will give you a chance to see the vast, never-ending plains of the Serengeti. While
the bulk of animals are in the Ndutu area, no area of Serengeti is every devoid of wildlife and so this day should be as
rewarding as any other day on the trip. Hopefully we will get to see the Big 5 and as many of the 32 species of terrestrial,
large herbivore species that call this landscape home. We will spend the night in the Central plains in our second Tortilis
camp of the trip.

Serengeti
This day we begin Central Serengeti and essentially do yesterday’s trip in reverse, i.e., we will begin with the Central Plains
and then make our way back to Ndutu. While in the Central plains, we will be drive by kopjes (rock outcrops) that usually
harbor leopards. The Serengeti-Mara ecosystem is larger the state of Massachusetts, so there’s more than enough to explore
in the Central plains and on the drive back. Depending on what we see, we should be back in the Ndutu area by mid
afternoon to enjoy some more of the wildlife spectacle being enacted in the Ndutu area. We will spend that night at the same
camp from two nights ago, i.e., the Ndutu Kati Kati camp.

Ndutu to Ngorongoro
We recommend a balloon safari this morning, but a safari ride would be thrilling too. We will spend the morning in the Ndutu area and then exit Serengeti National Park around lunch time. We will then drive through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and on our way visit the Olduvai Gorge Museum. The Olduvai Gorge is one of the most important paleoanthropological locations in the world and the museum is worth a visit. After visiting the museum, and before we reach our lodge, we will visit a Maasai boma (settlement). We should reach afternoon, which will give you time to put your legs up and enjoy the spectacular views of the crater from your room/lodge.

Ngorongoro Crater to Karatu
After an early morning breakfast, we will head to Ngorongoro Crater for what should be one of the highlights of the trip. The
Ngorongoro Crater, a UNESCO listed heritage site, is considered the world’s largest intact volcanic caldera and seeing the
abundant wildlife that call this unique location home always spellbinds guests. The crater is one of Africa’s most popular
safari destinations and the drive into the caldera is a highlight that usually remains an everlasting memory for guests.
Ngorongoro’s unique wildlife experience is supplemented by a bird list that exceeds 350 species. After a ~6 hour safari drive,
we will exit the crater and make our way to our final lodge just outside the Ngorongoro Conservation Area besides the village
of Karatu. Before we get to Karatu, we will make a couple of stops at some art galleries that are worth a visit.

Karatu to Lake Manyara national park
As you are scheduled to fly out of Kilimanjaro airport only at night, and we have decided to visit Lake Manyara National Park
during the day. We’ll depart after breakfast and carry our lunch box to the park. Lake Manyara National Park is a small but
diverse park that is dominated by a shallow, salty lake that seasonally floods. Over 500 other bird species have been
recorded in Lake Manyara Park and its varied habitats provide excellent opportunities to see birds not easily seen on the
Serengeti plains. The park’s diverse habitats, which include woodlands, grassy plains, and baobab dotted cliffs harbor lots of
wildlife. If we get lucky, we might see lions lounging on trees, a sight famously associated with Manyara. We will drop you
off at Kilimanjaro airport in time for your flight that evening.
