Pick up from Arusha Airport

Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro or Arusha airport, you’ll be warmly welcomed and transferred to the luxurious Karibu Heritage. After settling in your guide will meet you to provide a comprehensive briefing on your upcoming hike covering daily expectations and ensuring you have all the necessary gear for a successful adventure.

Arusha to Miriakamba

Duration: 5–7 hours hiking
Vegetation: Forest

After breakfast, you'll be picked up and driven to Ngongongare Gate. Your guide will handle the paperwork, then you'll continue through Arusha National Park with chances for wildlife spotting. At Momella Gate, porters and luggage will be checked.

Your 3-day Mount Meru trek begins at a relaxed "pole pole" pace. The first day's hike offers a walking safari experience with views of reticulated giraffes, zebras, waterbucks, and buffaloes. An armed ranger will accompany you for safety.

Choose between longer or shorter routes depending on your start time. The trail crosses the Ngarenanyuki River and features a beautiful waterfall at Mount Meru's base. Arrive at Miriakamba Hut (2,500 meters) before sunset for an overnight stay.

Miriakamba to Sadlle

Miriakamba Hut (2,500m) – Saddle Hut (3,500m)
Duration: 3–5 hours of hiking

After breakfast, embark on a steep ascent along the ridge to Saddle Hut. Enjoy wildlife sightings and breathtaking views of Mount Meru Crater and the Ash Tray along the trail. Upon reaching camp, you have the option to hike to Little Mount Meru (3,820m) with your guide to aid acclimatization. An early dinner will be served, allowing you to rest up before your midnight summit attempt. Ensure you’re in bed by 7:00 PM for a good night’s sleep.

Saddle hut to summit to Arusha

Duration: Approximately 9–12 hours of hiking
Vegetation Type: Alpine desert

Rise at 12:30 AM for a light meal before embarking on your final push to the summit of Africa's fifth-highest mountain. Begin your ascent on a steep path towards Rhino Point (3,800m) and then onto Cobra Point (4,350m).

From there, navigate the rocky ridge between the Crater and the inner cliffs of Mount Meru, reaching the summit (4,566m) just as the sun rises. On clear days, you’ll enjoy stunning views of Mount Kilimanjaro and the dramatic cliffs of the crater.

Our drivers will be ready to transport you back to Arusha or the airport. If you reach the summit, you'll be awarded a certificate for your Meru trek, and those who completed the acclimatization hike at Little Meru will also receive a certificate.
