Day 1

Cape Town to Oudtshoorn

Cape Town to Oudtshoorn

You'll start your day with pickup between 6:00 and 8:00 am from Cape Town CBD or Stellenbosch and hit the road along Route 62, the world's longest wine route. You'll enjoy views of mountains, valleys, vineyards, and orchards. You'll stop at a farm stall to taste local delicacies before reaching Oudtshoorn, the ostrich capital of the world and the gateway to the Cango Caves. You'll explore the underground caves, a network of limestone chambers with incredible formations and ancient paintings. You can choose between the Heritage Tour, a leisurely walk through the main chambers with great acoustics and insights from your guide, or the Adventure Tour, a more challenging route that involves crawling and squeezing through narrow passages. You'll spend the night in Oudtshoorn. You can either go to town for a restaurant meal or join an optional outdoor braai— subject to availability — where you can try local specialties like ostrich kebabs, 'boerewors' sausage, 'pot brood' (bread), and salad.

Oudtshoorn to Sedgefield

You can start an early morning by joining an optional (own expense) Elephant Observation Nature Bush Walk to follow and observe three orphaned elephants, rescued from poachers, in a natural habitat. Later, you'll enjoy a relaxing canoe ride along the reed-lined riverbanks in the wilderness and observe the variety of birds in the area. The adventure reaches its peak at Bloukrans Bridge, the world's highest commercial bridge bungy jump where you might dare to plunge 216m down with nothing but an elastic cord (at your own expense). If you're not up for the bungy jump, you can take a leisurely walk near
the bridge in nature. You'll spend the evening in Sedgefield, where you can dine at local restaurants. You will stay overnight at the Pili Pili Backpackers or similar accommodation, depending on availability.
