Ndutu lake
Situated in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, Lake Ndutu is part of the Serengeti ecosystem and plays a vital role in the migration of wildebeest and zebras. The fertile plains surrounding the lake provide a haven for the animals from the end of November to March when the youngsters are weaned and embark on an 800 km journey back to where they were born, completing the migration cycle.
These areas are home to a range of wildlife, including elephants, jackals, ostriches, giraffes, impalas, gazelles, two lion prides, cheetahs, spotted hyenas, hippos, crocodiles, and over 400 bird species. With the migration as a catalyst, the numbers of carnivores and predators also intensify, and griffon vultures, lions, hyenas, cheetahs, and jackals flock to the area.
