Serengeti National Park is well known for its healthy stock of resident wildlife, particularly the Big Five, named for the 5 most prized trophies taken by hunters. The Serengeti is believed to hold the largest population of lions in Africa due in part to the abundance of prey species. More than 3,000 lions live in this ecosystem. The reclusive African leopard is commonly seen in the Seronera region but is present throughout the national park, with a population of around 1,000.

Northern Serengeti National Park
Have an early breakfast then drive to Serengeti with game viewing en-route. Serengeti is undoubtedly the best-known wildlife sanctuary in the world, unequalled for its natural beauty and scientific value. It has the greatest concentration of plains game in Africa.
It is the migration for which Serengeti is perhaps most famous. Over a million wildebeest and about 200,000 zebras flow south from the northern hills to the southern plains for the short rains every October and November, then swirl west and north after the long rains in April, May and June. So strong is the ancient instinct to move that no drought, gorge, or crocodile-infested river can hold them back. Serengeti is home to the legendary great wildebeest migration. The park is rich with wildlife, endless plains, and sunrises and sunsets that make the heart go wild.
A packed lunch will be served at a picnic site. Late in the afternoon, drive to your accommodation for dinner and your overnight stay at Lemala Kuria.

"The only living things which look as if they really belong are wild animals. Between the animals and Africa, there is an understanding that human beings have not yet earned", Laurens van der Post, Venture to the Interior, 1963.
Today, the Serengeti National Park, the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, and the Masai Mara National Reserve across the border in Kenya, protect the greatest and most varied collection of terrestrial wildlife on earth. It is one of the last great migratory systems that is still intact.
