Day 1

Serengeti National Park

Serengeti National Park

Your guide will pick you up from your hotel and drive up the crater highlands, stopping at the rim for a spectacular view of the Ngorongoro Crater. Continuing as far as the eye can see is the vast Serengeti. Serengeti mean "endless plain" and this 6,900 sq. mile (18,000s q. km) park is inhabited by more than 2 million wildebeest. January to April is when wildebeest give birth to their calves, and hundreds of thousands of plains zebras and Thomson's gazelles move through the area. Large predators, including lions, cheetahs and hyenas, are drawn to the area by this abundance of prey, which migrates throughout the park.

Many smaller animals, such as rock hyraxes, bat-eared foxes, mongooses, honey badgers, jackals, monkeys, baboons and African hares, inhabit the area, along with nearly 500 species of birds. After the game drive, you will drive to the camp for your evening rest.

Ngorongoro Crater

Ngorongoro Crater

Today, you will wake up very early to do an early morning safari before breakfast to spot the animals when they are more active and witness a fantastic sunrise. The sunrise in the African savannah is one of the most beautiful experiences. You will then travel to the Ngorongoro Crater, inhabited by almost every species of wildlife indigenous to East Africa, including the rare black rhino. The crater has the greatest concentration of wildlife on the planet. It contains a river, several swamps, a soda lake that, from the top, looks like steam, full of flamingos, a forest and open plains. Large bull elephants that reside here have very large tusks due to the rich mineral content of the volcanic soil and its grasses.

After your tour and game drive, you will return to Arusha and be dropped off at your hotel.
