Full-Day at the Heart of Maasai Mara
Today, we will spend the whole day on a game drive in the Masai Mara, with a picnic lunch included. The reserve is home to the "Big Five"—lion, leopard, African elephant, Cape buffalo, and black rhinoceros. Black rhino numbers dropped a lot because of poaching in the 1970s and 1980s but have slowly increased since then, with about 23 rhinos counted in 1999. You’ll also see large groups of hippos and crocodiles in the Mara and Talek Rivers. Leopards, hyenas, cheetahs, jackals, and bat-eared foxes are also present. From July to October, the Great Migration takes place, with around 1,300,000 wildebeest, 500,000 Thomson’s gazelles, 97,000 topi, 18,000 elands, and 200,000 zebras moving north from the Serengeti to find fresh grass. Enjoy dinner and stay overnight at your accommodation.
