You will have an early start to the day to ensure that you complete the route for the day which combines a grand game drive with a picnic lunch in the crater. Animals often migrate in and out of the crater due to its inflated walls. This means you are proficient in spotting every member of the Big Five within one day.
The Big Five includes buffalos, elephants, rhinos, lions and leopards. Some of the other wildlife that you can expect to see include zebras, hippos, wildebeest, and hyenas. The craters also exhibit a large-scale bird population counting geese, storks, and vultures. You will be pleased by the view of lovely flamingos on the Soda Lake. Our guides are highly professional and will thrill you with their capability to track down animals. This is a skill that a book cannot teach you and that a selected few can perform. Your trip will come to an end in the late afternoon and you will proceed back to the lodge.

Day 6

Lake Natron

Lake Natron

Our guide will pick you up early in the morning, and the journey to Lake Natron will commence. Lake Natron is a destination that very few travelers visit. With flamingo-filled lakes, ancient hominoid footprints, and active volcanoes, Natron is a stunning region reserved for the adventurous. A truly wonderful region. This is an area well off the beaten track, consisting of a near-pristine forest reserve and extensive grass plains interspersed with mountains, rocky hills, and even a live volcano— Ol Doinyo Lengai, with an extremely steep climb— but reach its peak and you are rewarded with breathtaking views over Ngorongoro, Kilimanjaro and all the volcanoes of the Rift Valley! ‘Mountain of God’ in Maasai. The scenery is phenomenal; some of the most spectacular in Africa. The area is also notable for its location on village land rather than within a game reserve or national park that prohibits human settlement.

Main Destination:
Lake Natron
Accommodation:
Maasai Giraffe Eco Lodge
  • Budget lodge located near Lake Natron
Meals & Drinks:
  • All meals included

I highly suggest water shoes or even using hiking boots and getting them wet.

Cultural Tour

Cultural Tour

After breakfast, your cultural tour will begin. A visit to a Masai village is an interesting experience. When you arrive in the village, children and adults greet you with songs and dancing. At certain times, you will be welcomed in one of the homesteads of the village. The village huts are made of cow dung and clay plastered over stalk frames. This is pretty handy, the Maasai keep cattle herds and the dung is always rich and freely available. One of the hosts will give you an insight into the life of the Maasai.
Some may not speak English, but our guide will interpret you so that the story can be exchanged. This is a wonderful opportunity to learn about the history and lifestyle of this community. You can ask as many questions as you like. After that, your trip to Arusha will commence. You'll be dropped off at your hotel.
