Day 1

Upon arrival, your driver will pick you up and drive you to Weruweru River Lodge, 45 minutes from the airport. You will arrive at Weruweru River Lodge and check into your rooms. Your Mountain Guide will join you shortly for a briefing and equipment check on your mountain gear. You can use the rest of the day to prepare for Kilimanjaro and also walk around during the daytime to stretch.

Day 2

Machame Gate to Machame Camp

Machame Gate to Machame Camp

After breakfast, you will be picked up by your guide and introduced to your climbing team, which includes guides, chefs, and porters who will assist you throughout your trek. You'll then start your journey to Machame Gate, where you will complete the registration process before beginning your climb. The trek from Machame Gate to Machame Camp is approximately 11 kilometers and takes about 5 to 7 hours, depending on your pace and the conditions. Upon reaching Machame Camp, you can explore the surroundings and enjoy the stunning views before having dinner and settling in for an overnight stay.

Day 3

Machame Camp to Shira Camp

After an early breakfast at Machame Camp, you will begin your ascent towards Shira Camp 2. The hike starts with a steep climb through the last stretches of the rainforest, transitioning into heath and moorland as you gain altitude. This day offers spectacular views of Mount Kilimanjaro and the surrounding landscapes. The trek from Machame Camp to Shira Camp 2 covers approximately 8 kilometers and takes about 6 to 8 hours, depending on the pace and conditions. Upon arrival at Shira Camp 2, located on the expansive Shira Plateau, you can rest, explore the unique high-altitude environment, and enjoy dinner before settling in for the night.

Day 4

Shira Camp to Barranco

Shira Camp to Barranco

After breakfast at Shira Camp 2, you will begin your journey to Barranco Camp. Today's trek takes you through the alpine desert, where the landscape becomes more rugged and the air thinner as you gain elevation. You'll make your way up to the Lava Tower, an impressive volcanic rock formation standing at 4,630 meters (15,190 feet). Here, you'll have a chance to rest and acclimatize to the higher altitude. After lunch near the Lava Tower, you'll descend into the Barranco Valley, passing through the stunning scenery of the Senecio Forest. The trek from Shira Camp 2 to Barranco Camp is approximately 10 kilometers and takes about 6 to 8 hours. Upon reaching Barranco Camp, you'll be greeted by breathtaking views of the Great Barranco Wall and the surrounding landscape. Enjoy a well-deserved dinner and rest overnight at the camp, preparing for the next day’s challenge of climbing the Barranco Wall.

Day 5

Barranco to Karanga Camp

Barranco to Karanga Camp

After an early breakfast at Barranco Camp, you will start the day by tackling the Great Barranco Wall, a steep but non-technical rock face that requires some light scrambling. As you ascend, you'll be rewarded with incredible views of the valley below and the surrounding glaciers. Once at the top of the wall, you’ll take a short break to catch your breath and enjoy the spectacular scenery before continuing your trek. The trail then winds up and down over several ridges, leading you into the Karanga Valley. This section offers diverse terrain and varying altitudes, helping with acclimatization. The trek from Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp is approximately 5 kilometers and takes around 4 to 5 hours. Upon arrival at Karanga Camp, you'll settle in for the evening, enjoy a hot meal, and rest in preparation for the next day's journey towards the summit.

Day 6

Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp

Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp

After breakfast at Karanga Camp, you will continue your ascent towards Barafu Camp, which is your base camp before the summit attempt. The trail from Karanga to Barafu is a steady climb through alpine desert, with fewer plants and more rocks as you ascend to higher altitudes. The trek covers about 4 to 5 kilometers and takes approximately 4 to 5 hours. Upon reaching Barafu Camp, situated at 4,673 meters (15,331 feet), you'll have some time to rest, eat an early dinner, and prepare your gear for the summit push. It’s important to go to bed early, as the summit attempt will begin around midnight. Rest as much as possible and hydrate well, preparing for the challenging climb to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro.

Day 7

Summit Uhuru Peak

Summit Uhuru Peak

Around midnight, you will begin the final ascent from Barafu Camp to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro, Uhuru Peak. This challenging climb takes about 7 to 8 hours and will test your endurance as you make your way up steep, switchback trails through the darkness, aiming to reach Stella Point by sunrise. After a brief rest at Stella Point, you will continue for another 1 to 2 hours along the crater rim to reach Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa at 5,895 meters (19,341 feet). After celebrating your achievement and taking in the spectacular views, you'll start your descent back to Barafu Camp for a short rest and a hot meal. The journey then continues down to Mweka Camp, where you will have dinner and enjoy a well-deserved rest after this demanding and unforgettable day.

Following the farewell to your team, you will transfer back to Weruweru River Lodge.
