Day 1

Arriving at Tsavo East National Park and a Game Drive

Arriving at Tsavo East National Park and a Game Drive

Depart from your Mombasa, Diani, Watamu, or Malindi hotel and head to Tsavo East National Park. Upon arrival, you will have lunch and check in at your lodge. You will enjoy a game drive in the afternoon and visit the Aruba dam. Later in the afternoon, return to your lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.

A tragic event occurred around 1898 in Tsavo—the tale of two 'man-eating' lions. These man-eaters were a pair of mane-less lions who, over nine months, terrorized construction workers of the British Ugandan Railway to such an extent that all construction on this vitally important project halted for three months. In the end, 135 people succumbed to the tragedy.

Tsavo is also known for its large herds of elephants migrating from Tsavo West National Park. Other wildlife in the park includes rhinos, buffaloes, lions, leopards, hippos, crocodiles, waterbucks, lesser kudus, gerenuks, and a diverse bird population with over 500 recorded species.

Tsavo East to Tsavo West National Park

Tsavo East to Tsavo West National Park

After breakfast, we depart for Tsavo West National Park. We will arrive and check in for lunch at the lodge. We will relax at the lodge until 3:00pm, then go on a two-hour afternoon game drive. Look out for the maneless lions in the park. We will return for dinner and spend the night at the lodge.

Tsavo West is a beautiful, rugged wilderness. The grassland ecosystem comprises open grasslands, scrublands, acacia woodlands, belts of riverine vegetation, and rocky ridges. You will also visit the Poacher's Lookout where visitors can see the teeming herds in the plains below. Tsavo West National Park offers some of the world's most beautiful game viewing, and attractions include elephants, rhinos, hippos, lions, cheetahs, leopards, and buffaloes.
