Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you'll be met by your driver and transferred to Babylon Lodge, located near Marangu. Here, you'll have time to relax and settle in after your journey. In the late afternoon or evening, you'll meet your mountain guide for a detailed briefing about the climb ahead, including important safety information and what to expect on the trek. You'll also conduct a thorough gear check to ensure you have all the necessary equipment for a successful climb. If you have any questions or need to rent additional gear, this is the perfect time to address them. Enjoy dinner at the lodge and rest up for the adventure ahead.

Marangu Gate to Mandara Huts
After an early breakfast at Babylon Lodge, you will be driven to the Marangu Gate, where the registration process will take place, and your climb will officially begin. The trek starts in lush rainforest terrain, where you'll have the chance to spot unique flora and fauna. The trail gradually ascends through the forest, and after approximately 5 to 7 hours of hiking over 8 kilometers, you will reach Mandara Hut at 2,700 meters (8,858 feet). Here, you can relax, explore the nearby Maundi Crater, and enjoy dinner. Spend the night at Mandara Hut, acclimatizing to the altitude in preparation for the days ahead.
Mandara to Horombo Huts
After breakfast at Mandara Hut, you will continue your trek through the last stretches of the rainforest before entering the heath and moorland zone. The landscape becomes more open, with views of Mawenzi and Kibo peaks. The trek today is approximately 12 kilometers and takes about 5 to 7 hours, gradually ascending to Horombo Hut at 3,720 meters (12,205 feet). Along the way, you'll encounter unique vegetation like giant groundsels and lobelias. Upon arrival at Horombo Hut, you'll have time to rest, acclimatize, and enjoy dinner before settling in for the night, preparing for the climb to higher altitudes.
Acclimatization
Today is an acclimatization day at Horombo Hut to help your body adjust to the higher altitude. After breakfast, you’ll embark on a short acclimatization hike to Zebra Rocks at 4,020 meters (13,189 feet), named for their distinctive black and white stripes caused by mineral deposits. The hike is about 3 kilometers round trip and takes around 2 to 3 hours. After enjoying the views and a rest break, you’ll return to Horombo Hut for lunch. The rest of the day is free to relax, explore the area, and rest, allowing your body to adjust to the altitude. Enjoy dinner and another night at Horombo Hut.

Kibo Hut
After an early breakfast at Horombo Hut, you’ll set out for Kibo Hut, your base camp for the summit attempt. The trail gradually ascends through the alpine desert zone, passing the "Last Water Point" and continuing across the "Saddle," a vast, barren area between Mawenzi and Kibo peaks. The trek today covers about 9 kilometers and takes approximately 6 to 8 hours. Upon reaching Kibo Hut at 4,700 meters (15,420 feet), you'll rest, have an early dinner, and prepare for the midnight summit attempt. It’s important to rest as much as possible and ensure all your gear is ready for the final push to the summit.

Uhure peak Summit
Just before midnight, you will start the final ascent to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro. The climb begins on a steep, rocky path leading to Gilman’s Point at 5,685 meters (18,652 feet), which takes about 5 to 7 hours. After a short rest, you will continue along the crater rim for another 1 to 2 hours, going to Uhuru Peak at 5,895 meters (19,341 feet), the highest point in Africa. After celebrating your achievement and taking in the breathtaking sunrise views, you'll begin your descent back to Kibo Hut for a short rest and a hot meal. You will then continue descending to Horombo Hut, covering a total of 15 to 16 kilometers for the day. After this long and challenging day, enjoy dinner and a well-deserved rest at Horombo Hut.

Marangu Gate
After breakfast at Horombo Hut, you will begin your descent back to the Marangu Gate. The trek takes about 5 to 6 hours and covers approximately 20 kilometers, passing back through the moorland and lush rainforest zones. Upon reaching the gate, you’ll sign out and receive your summit certificates to commemorate your achievement. From there, you'll head to Marangu Mtoni for a celebratory barbecue lunch, where you can enjoy delicious food and share stories of your adventure with your climbing team. This is also a great opportunity to express gratitude to your guides, porters, and fellow climbers. After the farewell celebration, you’ll be transferred back to Babylon Lodge for a relaxing evening and overnight stay.

Departure
After a restful night at Babylon Lodge, enjoy a leisurely breakfast as you prepare for your departure. Depending on your travel plans, you can either relax at the lodge or explore the surrounding area one last time. When you're ready, you will be transferred to Kilimanjaro International Airport for your flight home, or you can choose to continue your adventure with optional extensions, such as a safari in Serengeti or Ngorongoro, or a relaxing stay on the beautiful beaches of Zanzibar.
