Pick Up from the Airport

On this day, you will be picked up from either Kilimanjaro or Arusha Airport and driven to Jevas Encore Hotel. After settling in, your guide will provide a briefing on the hike, detailing what to expect each day, and will also check to ensure you have all the necessary gear for the trek.

Arusha/Moshi to Momella Gate 1500 m – Miriakamba Hut 2500

Duration: Approximately 5 – 7 hours of hiking.
Vegetation Type: Forest.

The tour begins shortly after breakfast. Your guide will pick you up and drive to the Ngongongare Gate, where all necessary paperwork will be completed. You will then drive through Arusha National Park, with stops along the way for wildlife spotting, before reaching Momella Gate for a final check of porters and luggage.

Your 3-day trek up Mount Meru will start at a "pole pole" (slowly slowly) pace. The first day resembles a walking safari, with opportunities to spot animals such as reticulated giraffes, zebras, waterbuck, and buffaloes. Since the hike takes place inside the park, an armed ranger will accompany you to the camp for safety.

Depending on the starting time, you can take either a long or short route. Along the way, you will cross the Ngarenanyuki River and see a beautiful waterfall at the base of Mount Meru. You are expected to arrive at Miriakamba Hut (2,500 m) before sunset.

Miriakamba Hut 2500 m – Saddle Hut 3500 m

Duration: 4 – 5 hours of hiking.
Vegetation Type: Forest Zone.

After breakfast, continue your trek up Mount Meru along a steep path through the forest zone, with chances to spot various birds and animals along the way. You'll arrive at Saddle Hut, located in the alpine desert zone, where a hot lunch will be served depending on your pace.

After lunch and a brief rest, you have the option to take an acclimatization hike to Little Meru (3,820 m). This hike offers fantastic views of Mount Meru and the surrounding area and helps prepare you for the summit attempt on the main peak. An early dinner will be served to allow plenty of rest before your midnight ascent. You are encouraged to go to bed early, around 7:00 PM, to get sufficient rest for the summit climb.

Saddle Hut 3500 m – Meru Summit Socialist Peak 4566 m – Arusha

Duration: Approximately 9-12 hours of hiking.
Vegetation Type: Alpine Desert.

Wake up at 12:30 AM for a light meal before embarking on your final ascent to Mount Meru’s summit, the fifth-highest peak in Africa. On the last day of your 3-day trek, you’ll start by hiking to Rhino Point (3,800 m) and then to Cobra Point (4,350 m). The trail continues along a rocky ridge between the crater and the inner cliffs of Meru. Reach the summit (4,566 m) with the first light of dawn, offering stunning views of Mount Kilimanjaro on clear days. After your summit achievement, our drivers will transfer you back to Arusha or the airport. You’ll receive a certificate for reaching the summit, and those who completed the acclimatization hike at Little Meru will also get a certificate.
