Day 1-3

Lusaka to Lower Zambezi National Park

Lusaka to Lower Zambezi National Park

You are met off of your flight at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport (Lusaka) and transferred by road to your lodge in the Lower Zambezi National Park. On arrival at the lodge, you will have time to settle in before tea and your afternoon game drive.

Lower Zambezi National Park covers an area of 4,092 km2 (1,580 mi2), with game concentrated on the valley floor. There is an escarpment along the northern end which acts as a physical barrier to most of the park’s resident wildlife, and enormous herds of elephant, some up to 100 strong, are often seen at the river’s edge. The riverine woodland includes ebony, fig, and Albida trees, whose seed pods are a huge attraction to the elephants and browsing animals. Further inland is a floodplain fringed with Mopane forest interspersed with winter thorns and huge Acacias.

Lower Zambezi National Park to South Luangwa

Lower Zambezi National Park to South Luangwa

This morning after breakfast, you will be transferred by road back to Lusaka for your flight to Mfuwe. On arrival at Mfuwe Airport, you will be met by your safari guide and transferred by road to your camp.
You will have time to freshen up before tea and your afternoon game drive.

South Luangwa is 9,060 km2 (3,500 mi2) in size and has incredibly diverse landscapes ranging from dense forests of mopane, ebony and sausage trees to wide open savanna punctuated only by the occasional lonely baobab - all hugged by the wide and winding Luangwa River. The river is the most intact major river system in Africa and the lifeblood of this park. The now famous “walking safari” originated here and is still one of the finest ways to experience Africa’s pristine wilderness firsthand. The changing seasons add to the park’s richness, from dry bushveld in the winter to lush wonderland in the summer months.
