Your guide will meet you on arrival in Blantyre today and drive you through the bustling city to the rolling tea estates of Thyolo. Your overnight at Huntingdon House includes all your meals. We hope you relax in the garden and enjoy the montane evergreen forests surrounding the property.

Day 2

Thyolo

Today is dictated by the birds. We’ll explore the surrounding estate and the endemic patches of forest between the plantations. All meals will be enjoyed in the gardens at Huntingdon House. In the afternoon we'll search Thyolo Mountain for the Thyolo alethe. Today's highlights could include the green-headed oriole, African broadbill, grey twinspot, and buff-spotted flufftail.

Day 3

Thyolo - Zomba

Thyolo - Zomba

After breakfast, we’ll head north, enjoying a picnic lunch en route and stopping at key birding areas along the way. We’ll arrive at Zomba Forest Lodge in the mid-afternoon, where you can explore the surrounding gardens and take a short walk to experience the evening chorus. Dinner and your overnight stay will be at the lodge.

Day 4

Zomba Plateau

Zomba Plateau

This morning’s birding takes place on the forested slopes and the plateau, where you may spot rare species such as the yellow-throated and white-winged apalis, Bertram's weaver, and the double-collared forest sunbird. Other frequent sightings include the black-headed apalis, red-faced crimsonwing, and Livingstone's turaco. Between excursions, all meals will be served at the lodge.

Day 5

Zomba - Liwonde National Park

Zomba - Liwonde National Park

After a late morning walk and breakfast, we’ll journey northward to Liwonde National Park, arriving at Mvuu Camp in time for lunch. As we drive through the park, we will complete the necessary entrance procedures, which are included in the package. In the afternoon, you will have the opportunity to participate in an activity of your choice, including game drives, guided walks, or boat safaris.

Day 6

Liwonde National Park

Liwonde National Park

Spend a full day exploring Liwonde National Park with Mvuu Camp. All meals and activities are included. Liwonde is home to an array of species such as the brown-breasted barbet, Pel’s fishing owl, white-backed night heron, bat hawk, and Livingstone’s flycatcher. There are over 300 species that inhabit this conservation success area.

Day 7

Liwonde National Park - Cape Maclear

We'll make our way today to the shores of Lake Malawi, a scenic four-hour drive. We’ll have a picnic lunch en route and stop at Lake Chilwa to look for reed-dwelling bird species. We expect to arrive at Cape Maclear around mid-afternoon. Enjoy an overnight stay at Chembe Eagles Nest, including dinner, bed, and breakfast.

Spend the full day exploring the area, where the mountains and islands offer excellent opportunities to spot water birds, including fish eagles, cormorants, and Pels fishing owls. You can explore by land or water, with your guide assisting in booking excursions. Lunch is not included today, but Chembe has a menu, and there are other local restaurants nearby to choose from. Dinner, your overnight stay, and breakfast will be at the lodge.

After leaving the lake, we will drive up the escarpment, passing through Dedza and Lilongwe. We’ll stop for a meal at the Land and Lake Cafe (or another restaurant in the area) before continuing to Dzalanyama, arriving in time for tea. In the evening, you can begin exploring the area around the lodge. Your stay here includes all meals.
