On this day, you'll be picked up from either Kilimanjaro or Arusha Airport and driven to Greenside Hotel. After settling in, your guide will meet you to provide a detailed briefing on the hike, including daily expectations, and will ensure you have all the necessary gear for the journey ahead.

Londorossi Gate to Forest Cam
Depart from Arusha or Moshi for a 4-hour drive to Londorossi Gate, followed by another hour to the Lemosho trailhead. Upon arrival, we'll enjoy lunch before beginning our trek through the pristine forest leading to our first campsite, Big Tree Camp.

Forest Camp to Shira One Camp
After breakfast, we'll continue our trek, leaving the forest for a savannah of tall grasses, heather, and volcanic rock adorned with lichen. As we ascend through lush rolling hills and cross several streams, we'll reach Shira Ridge before descending gently to Shira 1 Camp. The views of Kibo across the plateau are breathtaking.
Shira Camp 1 to Moir Hut or shira 2
Today, we'll take a gentle walk east toward Kibo's glaciated peak, crossing the plateau to reach Shira 2 Camp in the moorland. You may choose to stay at Shira 2 Camp or continue to Moir Hut, a rarely used site at the base of Lent Hills. Lent Hills offers various walks, providing an excellent acclimatization opportunity. Shira is one of the highest plateaus on Earth.

Moir Hut to Lava Tower to Barranco Camp Or Shira 2 Camp to Lava Tower to Barranco
After breakfast, we’ll begin our trek, heading southeast toward Lava Tower, also known as the “Shark’s Tooth.” Shortly after passing the tower, we’ll reach the second junction that leads us to Arrow Glacier at 16,000 ft. From there, we’ll descend to Barranco Hut at 13,000 ft.
You’ll have time to rest, enjoy dinner, and stay overnight.

Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp
After breakfast, we’ll depart Barranco and tackle the steep ridge as we ascend the Barranco Wall, making our way to the Karanga Valley Campsite. This is a short day designed to allow your body more time for acclimatization.

Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp
After breakfast, we’ll depart from Karanga and reach the junction connecting to the Mweka Trail. We’ll then continue our ascent to Barafu Hut. At this point, you'll have completed the South Circuit, which offers stunning views of the summit from various angles. Here, we’ll set up camp, relax, enjoy dinner, and prepare for the summit day. From this vantage point, you can see both Mawenzi and Kibo peaks.

Barafu Camp to Summit to Mweka Camp
At midnight, we’ll begin our ascent to the summit, navigating between the Rebmann and Ratzel glaciers. Heading northwest, we’ll climb through heavy scree toward Stella Point on the crater rim. This section is the most mentally and physically demanding part of the Kilimanjaro trek.
Upon reaching Stella Point (18,600 ft), we’ll take a short rest and, if the weather allows, you’ll be rewarded with an incredible sunrise. From Stella Point, you may encounter snow during the final hour of ascent to Uhuru Peak, the highest point on Mount Kilimanjaro and in Africa. Faster hikers may catch the sunrise from the summit.
For the descent, gaiters and trekking poles may be helpful due to the loose gravel. We’ll then make our way to Mweka Camp, located in the upper forest, where mist or rain is possible in the late afternoon.

Mweka Camp to Moshi
After breakfast, we’ll begin our descent to the Mweka Park Gate.
Our vehicles will be ready to drive you back to your hotel in Arusha or Moshi.
