On arrival at Windhoek International Airport, you are met by your guide and transferred to your guesthouse in Windhoek. After checking in, you have some time to relax before your guide takes you on a city tour that is followed by a welcome dinner at one of the local restaurants. It is important to book flights that arrive by lunch time.

Day 2

Windhoek to Quiver Tree Forest

Windhoek to Quiver Tree Forest

An early morning departure for the south takes you to the northern edge of Keetmanshoop. You enjoy a picnic lunch en route. After check in, you have time to relax before going out on a walk at the quiver tree forest. Quiver trees are endemic to the southern highlands of Namibia and grow in desert or semi-desert areas. These trees were given their name from the practice of San people manufacturing quivers for their arrows from the bark of the branches.

Day 3

Quiver Tree Forest to Luderitz

After a hearty breakfast, you continue to Luderitz stopping over in Aus for lunch. Aus is a small village which started off as a trading post in 1883 and later housed a prisoner of war camp at the onset of world war one. After lunch, you continue west stopping by the Garub waterhole to catch a glimpse of the feral horses of the Namib. Your journey continues west where you will have your first stop at Kolmanskop, a once vibrant town where diamonds were discovered in 1908. It is now a ghost town being swallowed by the sand after it was abandoned when richer diamond fields were found in the south. You then continue to Luderitz for check in at your hotel with time to relax before meeting up for dinner.

Day 4

Today, your guide will take you to visit Kolmanskop. You leave the hotel before sunrise being the best time to to photograph the town which is now at the mercy of the Namib Desert. Your guide can include a scenic drive to the Diaz Point where it is possible to spot penguins on one of the islands.

Day 5

Luderitz to Sossusvlei

Luderitz to Sossusvlei

From Lüderitz, you travel to Sossusvlei. You stay inside the national park for two nights (depending on availability), giving you access to Deadvlei at dawn to photograph the iconic camel thorn trees in silhouette against the red dunes. Afternoons can be spent in the dune corridor or at Sesriem Canyon. Optional ballon rides or scenic flights by helicopter or plane can be arranged and fitted into your program by your guide. Please note that these will need to be booked well in advance and are at an extra cost.

Day 6-7

Sossusvlei & Dead Vlei Excursions

Sossusvlei & Dead Vlei Excursions

The following two days are spent photographing Dead Vlei, Dune 45, the Sesriem Canyon or the dune corridor. The name Dead Vlei refers to the trees in the marsh that died about 900 years ago when the Tsauchab river was cut off by the dunes.
Named for it's proximity to the Sesriem gate, Dune 45 is said to be one of the most photographed dunes in the world. It is approximately 170m high, composed of 5-million-year-old sand that has turned red due to age and rusting of the grains. Sesriem gets it's name from early settlers who when collecting water from the canyon, had to connect six thongs to lower a bucket into the canyon.

Day 8

Sossusvlei to Swakopmund

Sossusvlei to Swakopmund

Today, you depart for Swakopmund after one final sunrise photoshoot of the dunes. An optional helicopter flight over the dunes is also available. You head north, crossing the Tropic of Capricorn, through the Gaub and Kuiseb Canyons, via the Namib Gravel Plains, as you make your way to the coast. Before reaching Walvis Bay, you visit the bird paradise where hundreds of Flamingos and a variety of seabirds can be spotted. The Namibian coastline is known as the Skeleton Coast due to the barren areas, shipwrecks, seals, and whale skeletons scattered on the beach.

Swakopmund to Spitzkoppe via Cape Cross

Swakopmund to Spitzkoppe via Cape Cross

An early morning departure takes you to Spitzkoppe via the Cape Cross seal colony. At Spitzkoppe, sunset and night photoshoots are a great way to spend time in this photogenic area. The area is home to a group of granite peaks or inselbergs. Standing at a height of 1728m above the surrounding plains, Spitzkoppe is also referred to as Namibia's Matterhorn. The area also boasts a collection of San/ Bushmen paintings. A visit to the San paintings can also be arranged by your guide during your stay.

Spitzkoppe to Southern Etosha via Himba Village

After an early morning photoshoot at Spitzkoppe and breakfast, you set off on your journey to Etosha National Park. You pass through small towns and farming communities, stopping at a local Himba village where you will get to photograph these iconic people. After arriving at Andersson's Camp, an afternoon property drive is taken in the Ongava Private Game reserve where you have the chance of spotting some elephants, lions, black and white rhino and lots of game. The Himba people are an indigenous group living in the north western part of Namibia, primarily in the Kunene Region. They are known for their distinctive way of life, cultural practices, and unique appearance.

Southern Etosha Game Drives

Southern Etosha Game Drives

This morning, your guide will take you to Etosha National Park for a full day game drive. You take a break for lunch and continue with your game drive as you make your way back to the Ongava Private Game Reserve. The park offers the widest variety of wildlife in Namibia. Etosha is known as the “great white place” because of the tremendous dried pan in the park’s center. The pan forms a unique backdrop and offers terrific contrasts in colour. You have time this afternoon, to visit the research centre a carousel of fascinating knowledge and insight into the ways and wonders of the wild. You will discover the amazing history of Ongava Private Game Reserve, the ancient geology of the land, and the secrets of its abundant fauna and flora.

Your guide can arrange a stop at a wood-carvers market in the town of Okahandja should you be interested in purchasing some crafts. Upon your return in Windhoek, you will have time to relax and explore the town before a final dinner is enjoyed at Joe's Beerhouse to celebrate your expedition in Namibia.
