Day 1

Londorossi Gate - Mti Mkubwa Camp

Londorossi Gate - Mti Mkubwa Camp

After a briefing with our climb managers the day before, your guide and mountain support crew will meet you at the hotel in the morning for another short information session. You’ll then be picked up from your hotel and embark on a 3–4-hour drive to the western entrance of Kilimanjaro National Park: Londorossi Gate (2,200 m). Once the climbing permits are acquired and registration with search and rescue services is complete, you'll begin your trek to the first camp: Mti Mkubwa (2,780 m). Since you’ll be trekking through the rainforest, raincoats are essential for the day. Upon reaching the camp, our expert crew will set up tents and prepare lunch. After eating, you’ll go on an acclimatization hike to Shira 1 Camp, gaining 300 meters in altitude, before returning to Mti Mkubwa Camp for a hot dinner.

The trek from Mti Mkubwa Camp to Shira 1 Camp (3,505 m) is relatively easy, taking about 5-6 hours. This allows for a gradual acclimatization process, which is essential for a successful trek. Upon arrival at the camp, your support team will prepare lunch, and you can either rest in your tent or explore the surrounding area.

The hike is relatively easy, allowing you to enjoy stunning views of Africa and the unique flora of Kilimanjaro. Weather permitting, Shira 2 Camp offers the best opportunity to see Mount Meru, Africa’s fifth-highest peak. This part of the route includes numerous ascents and descents, eventually leading to a camp at over 4,600 meters. Although this section can be challenging and you might experience some discomfort due to the altitude, it's essential to spend 1–2 hours here for proper acclimatization, making it the perfect spot for lunch.

Afterward, you'll descend to Barranco Camp (3,960 m), where you'll encounter the impressive Barranco Wall, known for its massive size and steepness. Don't worry about the climb the next day—it follows a straightforward hiking trail.

The climb up the gorge wall is relatively easy and takes about an hour. Once at the top, you can rest and capture stunning photos with the Kibo volcano as your backdrop.

Next, you’ll embark on a more challenging hike to Karanga Camp, which includes several ascents and descents. Don’t worry—our experienced guides will set an ideal pace for the group. Upon arrival at Karanga Camp, you'll enjoy a warm lunch. Afterward, you'll complete an acclimatization hike toward Barafu Camp, gaining 200 meters in altitude, before descending back to camp for the night.

You’ll depart from Barafu Camp (4,640 m) at night to begin your ascent to Kilimanjaro’s Uhuru Peak (5,895 m). Each pair of climbers will be assigned a personal guide to monitor your physical and mental well-being throughout the ascent. Following a two-hour rest, you’ll continue your descent to Millennium Camp (3,820 m).
