You’ll rise early at Machame Camp, and after breakfast, begin your ascent. The first hour takes you to the top of the forest, followed by a gentle two-hour climb through the moorland zone. After a brief lunch and rest, you'll continue up a rocky ridge onto the Shira Plateau. From here, you’ll enjoy stunning views of the Western Breach and its impressive glaciers to the east. You’ll be positioned due west of Kibo, and after a short hike, you'll arrive at the Shira campsite at 3840m. The porters will prepare drinking and washing water before serving dinner. Shira (3750), to lava tower(4630), to barranco camp (At 3900m)
Today’s route heads east into a semi-desert landscape surrounding Lava Tower. You’ll enjoy lunch in a designated area before tackling the challenging ascent up the rocky scree path to Lava Tower. This is typically the toughest day of the trek, and many climbers may start to experience symptoms of altitude sickness, such as breathlessness, irritability, and headaches.
After lunch, you’ll descend nearly 680 meters to the Barranco camping area. This descent, which takes about two hours, highlights the acclimatization benefits of the day. Along the way, you'll have fantastic opportunities to capture stunning photographs of the Western Breach and Breach Wall. The camp itself is situated in a valley below the Breach and the Great Barranco Wall.

Barranco camp(3900m) to Karanga camp(3995m)
After a night at Barranco Camp, where the Great Barranco Wall looms impressively, you’ll begin your ascent of this formidable obstacle. Surprisingly, the climb often turns out to be easier than expected. As you reach the top, just below the Heim Glacier, you'll be treated to breathtaking views of Kilimanjaro.
The route then descends through the Karanga Valley, navigating ridges and valleys until it connects with the Mweka route. The last water stop is in the Karanga Valley, as there is no water available at Barafu Camp, known as "ice camp." Barafu is a stark and inhospitable place to spend the night, with tents pitched on a narrow, stony ridge that is exposed to the harsh winds

After breakfast, you'll depart from Karanga Camp (3995m) and intersect with the Mweka Route, which you’ll use for your descent in the final days. After about an hour of hiking, you’ll arrive at Barafu Hut, the last water stop for porters, as there is no accessible water at Barafu Hut (4673m). The name "Barafu" means "ice" in Swahili, and this camp is situated on a rocky, exposed ridge.
Given the windy and rocky conditions, it’s important to familiarize yourself with the campsite before dark. An early dinner will be served to allow hikers to rest up for the summit attempt later that night. Your guide will provide a detailed briefing on how to prepare for the challenging ascent ahead.

Our schedule for Summit Day is quite different from previous days. You'll rise at 11 PM and enjoy tea and biscuits at 11:30 PM before departing at midnight. The climb begins with a long, challenging ascent from Barafu at 4556 meters to Stella Point at 5756 meters. Some sections will require you to navigate scree, making the trek even more demanding.
Once at Stella Point, you’ll still have another 139 meters to ascend, which takes about 45 minutes to reach the summit at 5895 meters. Our goal is to arrive around 7 AM, allowing time to celebrate, take memorable photos, and fully appreciate this once-in-a-lifetime experience.
