3-Day Trekking Meru

Arusha to Momella Gate 1500 m – Miriakamba Hut 2500

Hiking duration is approximately 5 - 7 hours.

The excursion will begin shortly after breakfast. Your guide will pick you up and take you to the Ngongongare Gate. At the gate, your guide will complete all paperwork before driving through Arusha National Park, making stops to observe wildlife. Reach Momella Gate for a last check on porters and luggage.
Following that, three days of Mt Meru trekking will begin at a leisurely and steady pace. The first day is akin to a walking safari; along the way, you may see reticulated giraffes, zebras, waterbuck, and buffaloes. Because the hike is within the park, an armed ranger will accompany you to the camp.

Miriakamba Hut 2500 m – Saddle Hut 3500 m

4 - 5 hours of hiking.

The vegetation type is forest zone.

Following breakfast, you will continue your Mt Meru climb over the steep path into the forest zone, viewing many birds and animals along the way. You'll arrive at Saddle Hut in the alpine desert zone for a delicious lunch (your pace will determine this).
After lunch and some rest, you might take an acclimatisation walk to Little Meru (3,820 m). This is a wonderful walk with great views of Mount Meru and the surrounding area. It prepares you for a night's attempt on the main summit of Meru Mountain.
On this day, an early dinner will be served so that you can recover before attempting the summit around midnight. You'll go to bed as early as possible, maybe around 7:00 p.m.

Saddle Hut 3500 m – Meru Summit Socialist Peak 4566 m – Arusha

Hiking lasts approximately 9-12 hours.

Alpine desert.

You'll wake up at 12:30 a.m. for a small lunch before beginning your final push to the summit of Africa's fifth highest mountain. On the final day of your three-day Mt Meru hike, you will begin by trading up the high grade trail to Rhino Point (3800 m), followed by Cobra Point (4,350 m).

From there, the hike will be along a rocky ridge between the Crater and Meru Mountain's inner cliffs. You will arrive at the peak during the first rays of the sun from the east (4,566 m).

Our drivers will be waiting to transport you back to Arusha or the airport.

If you make it to the summit, you will be issued with a certificate for Meru hiking (4,566 m), and those who completed the acclimatisation walk at Little Meru will also receive a certificate.
