Londorossi gate (2250 m) – Big Tree Camp (2780 m)
Following breakfast, you will be collected from Key's Hotel and driven to the 2,250-meter-high Londorossi Gate. Once the registration process is finished, you'll embark on an exciting experience through a rough drive into the dense rainforest. The trail leads to the Mti mkubwa Camp (2,780 m) over an untouched natural forest at a moderate grade. Since there is wild game in the region, you will be followed by an armed ranger for the first two days of your walk. Big Tree Camp will provide you with tents for the night.

Mti mkubwa Camp (2780 m) – Shira Camp 2 (3900 m)
You have a lengthy walk into the rainforest on a narrow trail today. The woodland gradually thins as you rise, leaving the surrounding area more barren and arid. Lobelia and ericas are scattered throughout the moorland. After four to five hours, you will pass Shira Ridge and arrive at Shira Camp 1. Here, you can take a midday break, relax, and take in the far-off vistas of Mount Meru and the Rift Valley. You will climb 250 meters in around 3 hours of trekking. You will cross enormous senecios, some of which are about nine meters tall, as you make your way over the solidified lava to the Shira Camp 2, your ultimate goal for the day. In addition to enjoying a dinner in the evening, you can be lucky enough to witness the top illuminated by the sunset's orange glow.

Shira Camp 2 (3900 m) – Lava Tower (4640 m) – Barranco Camp (3960 m)
Your body will adjust to the ever-increasing altitude with today's stretch. The Barranco Camp is your destination for the day, only marginally higher than where you stayed the night before, but you'll have to take a diversion to Lava Tower, which is 4,640 meters high. The long walk above the Shira Plateau towards the Lava Tower starts the ascent. The vegetation gradually disappears as the terrain gradually transitions to an alpine desert. After six to seven hours of trekking through the Barranco Valley, which is dense with lobelia and senecio, you will arrive at your tent. The Barranco Camp, regarded as one of the most exquisite camps on the mountain, is your campsite for the evening.
