Upon your arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you will be warmly greeted after you clear customs. Once you’ve collected your luggage and navigated through the arrival procedures, a representative will be there to assist you. You will then embark on a scenic transfer to Karibu Heritage, where your adventure truly beginsfor an in-depth briefing and equipment check with your climbing manager and guide.

Arusha To Mti Mkubwa Camp

Depart from Arusha in vehicles for the scenic drive to the Lemosho Trail's starting point at Londorossi Gate. As you approach the mountain from the west, you’ll enter the Afromontane Rainforest, the first of four ecological zones on Kilimanjaro. Here, you'll meet your climbing crew and set off at a relaxed pace, keeping an eye out for local wildlife. Enjoy lunch along the trail, and you’ll arrive at Forest Camp by mid-afternoon.

Forest Camp to Moir Hut Camp
Elevation: 9,498 ft to 11,500 ft
Distance: 5 miles
Duration: Approximately 5-6 hours
Today, you’ll ascend from the forested slopes of Lemosho through a podocarpus and juniper forest, emerging into a landscape of heather and lichen-covered volcanic rock as you reach the Shira Plateau, once Kilimanjaro’s third peak before its collapse. Enjoy lunch on the trail, arriving at camp by mid-afternoon. The breathtaking view of Kibo, Kilimanjaro’s peak, awaits you from this stunning vantage point.

Moir Hut Camp to Barranco Camp
Elevation: 13,800 ft to 15,223 ft (Lava Tower), then down to 13,044 ft

Duration: Approximately 4-6 hours
From Moir, you'll traverse the slopes of Kibo, where the extreme temperatures and conditions limit the survival of flora and fauna. Lunch is typically enjoyed near the volcanic rock formation known as Lava Tower. If you're feeling adventurous, you can opt for a 300-foot ascent of the Lava Tower before descending to Barranco Camp in the afternoon. Along the way, you'll pass through the stunning ‘Garden of the Senecios,’ filled with giant groundsel and lobelias. The Barranco Valley is one of the most beautiful areas along the entire trail.

Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp

Today offers a relatively short trek as you make your way to Karanga Camp, following your ascent of the challenging Barranco Wall. Be prepared to use all four limbs to navigate this steep climb to the top of the Karanga Valley. Once at the top, the path leads you through a series of ups and downs as you approach Karanga Camp, where you’ll arrive in the late afternoon. This camp is strategically chosen for its altitude, allowing for essential acclimatization. Enjoy breathtaking sunsets here, with views of the southern glacial valleys and ice fields rising over 3,000 feet above you.

Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp
Elevation: 15,288 ft to 19,341 ft (summit) to 12,467 ft
Distance: 3 miles ascent, 7 miles descent
Duration: 7-8 hours ascent, 4-6 hours descent
Today involves a challenging ascent to Barafu Camp. You’ll enjoy lunch at this high-altitude camp, providing ample time to relax and prepare for the summit bid. The landscape is a desolate alpine desert, and strong winds can sweep through at times, but the evenings often bring stunning views of Mawenzi Peak. A relatively early dinner will precede a restful night in preparation for your ascent.
Barafu to the Summit to Mweka Camp
Elevation: 12,467 ft to 5,380 ft
Distance: 6 miles
Duration: 3-4 hours
Depart just before midnight for your final summit bid. Patience and persistence are key in this cold and windy section of your journey. By dawn, as the first rays of light illuminate the Tanzanian landscape, you’ll reach Stella Point at 18,652 ft. Here, you’ll be treated to a breathtaking sunrise over Mawenzi Peak.
From Stella Point, a relatively short climb takes you to Uhuru Peak, the Roof of Africa! Capture as many pictures as you can during this unforgettable moment. After a brief celebration at the summit, begin your exhilarating descent. Take your time and enjoy the lush rainforest scenery on your way to Mweka Camp, arriving before dusk. With each step, you'll find more oxygen in the air, so although your legs may feel like jelly, your spirit will be light.

Mweka Camp to Arusha
After breakfast, you’ll descend once more through the montane forest. Around midday, after bidding farewell to your crew, you’ll be picked up and transferred back to your hotel. Enjoy a well-deserved shower followed by a celebratory dinner!
