Once you leave the park gate, your trek into the rainforest begins. You’ll follow a winding trail up a ridge. The lower sections of the trail can be muddy and slippery, so gaiters and trekking poles are highly recommended.

Next, you’ll descend to the Barranco Hut, situated at 13,000 feet. Here, you can rest, enjoy dinner, and spend the night. After reaching the summit, begin your descent directly to Mweka Hut, stopping for lunch at Barafu along the way. Gaiters and trekking poles are essential for navigating the loose gravel on your descent.

As you reach Mweka Camp in the late afternoon, you may encounter mist or rain in the upper forest. Enjoy your final dinner on the mountain that evening, followed by a well-deserved rest.
