The name of the rock structure comes from its distinctive black and white stripes. When you return to Horombo Hut, a nice lunch will be waiting for you. Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut
This step is challenging and lengthy. The "Last Water Point" and the so-called "saddle" are both reached along the well-constructed trail. This almost completely barren plateau connects Mawenzi and Kibo, the major summit. The Kibo Hut is today's destination, and it often takes five to six hours to get there. Because the night will be brief, you will eat in the early evening and go to bed early.

Kibo Hut to Uhuru Peak and Down to Horombo Hut
This is "the big day"; this is the pinnacle stage. It will be close to midnight when you begin your final, difficult climb. The climb steadily intensifies after reaching the Hans Meyer Cave at 5220 meters. When you reach Gillman's Point (5681m), the edge of Kilimanjaro's crater, it will be dawn and the ground will start to warm. When you reach Uhuru Peak, which is situated at an elevation of 5895 meters, you will have forgotten the chill of the previous night after another hour or two of hiking. Following your return to Kibo Hut, you will enjoy a hot meal and have a one- to two-hour break before descending again to Horombo Hut.
