Day 1

Machame Gate-Machame Camp

Machame Gate-Machame Camp

After breakfast, you will receive a briefing from your guide. At nine in the morning, our staff will drive you from your Moshi accommodation to Machame Village, where your porters and guides will arrange your gear and supplies. In addition, you'll get your lunch box here, and you can buy bottled water for your first day. If the road is dry, you will continue to Machame Gate by car. If the road is too muddy for the car to drive on, it will take you an hour to walk the three kilometres to the gate. After registering at the Kilimanjaro Park Office, you will begin your ascent into the rain forest. Ascertain that you have the proper boots, gaiters, and hiking poles. They will be useful when the trail gets wet. You will stop for lunch around halfway up, and you will reach the Machame Camp late in the afternoon.

Day 2

Machame Camp-Shira1

Machame Camp-Shira1

That day, you'll up early to have breakfast and get ready for the walk. You will walk through rainforest glades for an hour before climbing onto the broad moorlands, where tiny bushes predominate. After two hours of driving over the moorland, you will rise onto the Shira Plateau to see the Western Breach and its impressive glaciers for the first time. You will also stop for lunch and a little rest before reaching the plateau. Continue heading west until you come to the Shira Campsite. Before meals are served, the porters will reheat water for drinking and cleaning once more. Because of its exposed location, Shira Camp will see much lower temperatures—below freezing.

Day 3

Shira 1-Lava Tower

Shira 1-Lava Tower

After packing and breakfast, you'll set out eastward up a difficult trail above Kilimanjaro's last remaining vegetation. After five to six hours, you will reach the well-known Lava Tower (15,190 feet/ 3,950 meters). Two hours below the Western Breach, you will descend into the Barranco Camp after pausing here for lunch and a little additional acclimatisation. There are lots of fantastic photo opportunities on the third day's climb, especially if the walls are covered in ice.

While you wait for your lunch, you will get the chance to see one of the most beautiful sunsets of your life as the sun sets over the valley. Keep an eye on your health and notify your guide if you experience any symptoms of altitude sickness.

Day 4

Barranco Camp-Karanga Camp

Barranco Camp-Karanga Camp

You'll have an opportunity to get beyond this barrier after spending the night underneath the Great Barranco Wall. Keep your cool. It looks harder than it actually is. Continue until you find yourself directly below the Heim Glacier. You will then descend into the Karanga Valley after that. This is the final location where your porters can get water. They will obtain all the water required for the remainder of the ascent from this source. At Karanga Camp, this is where you will settle in. After lunch, you can take in the views of Mawenzi's towering spires while lounging about or doing some light touring.

Day 5

Karanga Camp-Barafu Camp

Karanga Camp-Barafu Camp

You will travel east after breakfast, crossing several valleys and ridges before coming to the Mweka Route. To reach the Barafu Hut, turn left at that point and continue climbing the ridge for an additional hour. You'll find your tent pitched on a rocky ridge with gale-force winds when you arrive at camp. Make sure the camp is comfy before dusk for your own safety. Make sure your lantern or headlamp is available in case you need to leave the tent after dark. You should aim to get some sleep, preferably by 7 pm, and set up your equipment (replace the batteries in your torch and camera) before attempting to reach the peak.

Day 6

Barafu Camp-Uhuru Peak

Barafu Camp-Uhuru Peak

Well done for trying to reach the top. Stella Point (18,650 feet/5,685 meters) is reached after six hours of hiking through deep scree and multiple switchbacks between the Ratzel and Rebmann glaciers. You have just completed what most climbers consider to be the most difficult part of their ascent. During your little break here, you might have the opportunity to witness the breathtaking dawn, depending on how quickly you've progressed to this point. The terrible cold shouldn't stop you from moving, even though you're exhausted. At Stella Point, you have established a connection to the last leg of the Marangu Route.

It will take you an additional hour or two of hiking along the rim to reach your ultimate target, Uhuru Peak. Congratulations, you are currently standing atop the Roof of Africa! Even though you will have time to snap pictures with the famous Uhuru Peak sign, you should head down as quickly as you can so that you have enough time to unwind in Barafu Camp.

Day 7

Mweka Camp-Mweka Gate

Mweka Camp-Mweka Gate

Breakfast will be served as normal, and then you'll pack and walk for three hours to reach Mweka Gate. Tip your personnel just when you and your entire equipment have arrived at the gate. You will have to wait to get your summit certificates (green for Stella Point and gold for Uhuru Peak) after registering at the gate. You will walk for an hour from the gate to the 3 km distant Mweka Village if the route is too muddy for cars. After a hearty meal, you'll be taken back to Arusha, where you may have your first hot shower in days!
