Moshi Town - Machame Gate - Machame Camp
In the morning, your guide and mountain support crew will meet you at the hotel for a quick briefing before traveling to Kilimanjaro National Park's Machame Gate (1,800m). After obtaining permits and registering with the search and rescue service, you'll begin trekking to Machame Camp (3,010m). The route passes through the rainforest, where tropical showers are likely, so be sure to bring spare clothes and a raincoat.
As this is your first day at altitude, it’s crucial to follow these guidelines:
Avoid alcohol and caffeine
Drink over 4 liters of water daily
Take Diamox to help with altitude sickness (consult your doctor beforehand)
You may experience discomfort at night due to reduced oxygen, such as headaches or nausea. Be sure to inform your guide of any symptoms.

After breakfast, you'll begin trekking to Shira Camp (3,845m), the second high-altitude camp. As you leave the rainforest, you'll enjoy stunning views of the Shira Plateau. The trek is not too difficult, but the altitude may be felt, so it’s important to maintain a steady pace. Upon reaching camp, you’ll have lunch and rest before heading out for an acclimatization hike towards Lava Tower Camp, gaining 300 meters in elevation. After returning to Shira Camp, a hot dinner awaits.
Note: The acclimatization hike helps speed up the process of adjusting to altitude, increasing your chances of summiting Kilimanjaro while preventing altitude sickness.
