Today, we will visit Johannesburg, the Apartheid Museum and Soweto. Johannesburg, also known as "Jozi", "Joburg", or "the city of gold"), is the most populous city in South Africa and is classified as a megacity; it is one of the 100 largest urban areas in the world. It is in the provincial capital of Gauteng, the wealthiest province in SA. Most major South African companies and banks have head offices in Johannesburg.
The Apartheid Museum, part of the Gold Reef City complex in Johannesburg, was opened in November 2001. It illustrates apartheid and South Africa's 20th-century history.
Soweto is a township in the City of Johannesburg, bordering the city's mining belt in the south. Its name is an English syllabic abbreviation for South Western Townships. Formerly a separate municipality, it is now incorporated in the City of Johannesburg Metropolitan Municipality and is one of the suburbs of Johannesburg.
