Your safari begins with your arrival at Shongwe Lookout, a charming boutique hotel located just a stone’s throw from the awe-inspiring Victoria Falls. After settling in, you'll enjoy the panoramic views from the lodge’s viewing tower before setting out on a guided tour of Victoria Falls. You'll walk along the trails that offer spectacular lookout points over this thundering natural wonder, feeling the spray and hearing the roar of the Zambezi River crashing into the gorge below.

Each room is well laid out and overlooks the lush gardens. The restaurant at Shongwe is outstanding and worth having dinner at.

Day 2

Transfer to Station & Take a Train to Hwange National Park

Transfer to Station & Take a Train to Hwange National Park

After breakfast at Shongwe, you will transfer about 3 hours by road to the Dete station in Hwange and board the Elephant Express train. You'll spend the next 3 hours on the train, game-watching as you go south to Bomani Tented Camp in the southeastern Ngamo Plains area.

The Elephant Express is a unique railcar, ingeniously designed to offer an unforgettable experience while transferring to and from Bomani Camp in southern Hwange. With seating at teak tables for up to 22 passengers, a spacious aisle allows for movement to get that perfect photograph, and there is even a toilet on board. Refreshments are served during the three-hour journey, including a light lunch on the afternoon southbound trip. Sit back, relax, and enjoy great wildlife viewing and a whole load of fun! This doesn't run from January to April, a charter flight will be substituted.

Bomani's main areas —sitting, dining spaces, and welcoming pool —all have a wonderful view of the pan and animals coming to drink.

Day 3

Explore Hwange National Park

Explore Hwange National Park

Bomani is situated in a private concession area, offering exclusive access to Hwange's wildlife.

You'll go on game drives through the park, home to some of Africa’s wildlife, including lions, leopards, cheetahs, and herds of elephants.

You'll spend your afternoons enjoying the ambiance of the lodge, with the chance to spot wildlife right from the comfort of your deck.

You'll experience the thrill of photographing elephants and other wildlife from a specially designed hide near a waterhole, where animals gather to drink.

You'll meet the white rhinos of the Ngamo Wildlife Sanctuary and hear about the ongoing conservation efforts to protect these endangered species. You'll learn about the dedicated Cobras anti-poaching unit, a local wildlife protection group that plays a crucial role in safeguarding Hwange's wildlife.

In the dry season, the Ngamo and surrounding areas of Hwange offer outstanding wildlife viewing, with animals concentrated around water holes, including elephants by the hundreds. In the summer rainfall season when the surrounding pans fill with water, this area is a verdant green oasis with new life, lots of migratory birds, and great wildlife viewing.

Hwange is home to over 40,000 elephants, along with lions, leopards, buffalos, and a wide variety of antelopes. The park's varied landscapes, from dry savannah plains to dense woodlands and seasonal wetlands, support a rich array of wildlife. Hwange is also renowned for its birdlife, with over 400 species recorded. Its remoteness ensures a truly authentic safari experience, with fewer crowds and more intimate wildlife encounters.

After your last morning's activities, you will transfer to the airstrip for a charter flight to Victoria Falls. You'll transfer through town to the Zambezi National Park, just upstream from Victoria Falls. This wilderness area flanks the mighty Zambezi River. Covering 56,000 hectares, the park offers a diverse range of habitats, from riverine forests to grassy floodplains, supporting an array of wildlife, including elephants, buffalo, zebras, and various antelope species. The river is a lifeline for the park’s animals. With its proximity to Victoria Falls, Zambezi National Park is the perfect blend of safari adventure and scenic river experiences.

You'll spend two nights at Chundu Island, located 21km upstream from Victoria Falls, without a doubt one of the most picturesque river islands on the Zambezi River. You'll enjoy canoeing, sundowner river cruises, fun fishing, walking on the island and in the national park, and game drives in the park.

The Seychelles-inspired spacious and secluded river suites overlooking the water offer exclusivity and privacy and are the ideal place to relax as you share in the sounds of nature along one of Africa’s biggest rivers. The rooms are canvas with a grass-style covering the rooms, keeping the tents cool. All overlook the river, with a large day bed and outside sitting area. Each tent has an outdoor shower and an indoor bathtub. The large screened doors can be opened for a view from the bed with a cup of coffee.

The island has over 400 recorded bird species, making Chundu a birder’s paradise.
