Covering nearly 3,000 square kilometers, Tarangire is best known for its large elephant populations and baobab trees. The park takes its name from the Tarangire River, which flows through it. During the dry season (June – November), Tarangire becomes especially impressive, with wildlife congregating in numbers that rival the Serengeti (since the river is the main water source for many species). Today brings an exciting visit to Lake Eyasi, home to various bushman communities.

You’ll visit with the Hadzabe and Datoga peoples and learn about their unique cultures. Discover traditional fire-making by vigorously rubbing a stick into hardwood until smoke appears and you set fire to dried grass. Try your hand at firing a bow and arrow at a grass target, a skill that often brings laughter from the local boys, who will happily showcase their (superior) shooting abilities! You might even be invited to join the bushmen on a hunt in search of small wild animals like rabbits, squirrels, or birds.

The Central Serengeti offers superb game viewing year-round due to its abundance of resident animals. Specifically, the Seronera River Valley in the Central Serengeti is a must-see on every safari, regardless of the time of year. Game viewing is at its best during the dry season (June – November) as resident animals are more concentrated in the immediate area due to the lack of water on the plains.
